Okay, so this is my excuse to just gush about Richard Madden in the new Eternals trailer. I’m a fairly big fan of the actor – ever since I saw him as Robb Stark in the HBO hit series Game of Thrones. It was that, plus his performance in Netflix’s Bodyguard that really sold me on him. So, of course, I was excited when I heard he had been cast in Marvel’s The Eternals. While I don’t know much about the Eternals, I’m excited. Not only because there are so many big names in the film and it’s directed by Oscar winner Chloe Zhao, but because I’m always excited for new characters.
In this case, especially Madden as Ikaris. Let’s watch the trailer again:
In the final trailer for The Eternals, we see Ikaris preparing for a fight against the Deviants. The trailer not only have us more insight into the plot of the film, but also these characters. There’s clearly going to be a love triangle between Madden’s Ikaris, Gemma Chan’s Sersi, and Kit Harrington’s Dane. While I normally dislike the love triangle trope, I’m kind of loving the idea of this one. Maybe simply because Gemma Chan is so beautiful and Harrington and Madden played brothers in Game of Thrones.
Not only was Madden looking good in this trailer, but his character’s powers looked insane. I’m seeing people dubbing him as the “Superman of the MCU” and which I hesitate to say that (as it doesn’t individualize the character of Ikaris), I’m also inclined to agree. He’s powerful, has the ability to fly, and can shoot lasers out of his eyes. Not only is this power visually striking, but it packs a punch. We’ve seen plenty of glowing eyes in the MCU, but none where those glowing eyes can actually do something.
I’m incredibly excited for Madden in The Eternals. In fact, I’m just plain excited for The Eternals. The Eternals stars Madden, Chan, Kumail Nanjiani, Lia McHugh, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Ridloff, Barry Keoghan, Don Lee, Salma Hayek, and Angelina Jolie. Who else is looking forward to this movie?
