Oscilloscope Laboratories has released the first trailer for their upcoming documentary Claydream which will be heading to select theaters soon on August 5, 2022.

The film from director Marq Evans is based on the life of Oscar-winner Will Vinton, who created an entirely new art form, which we all know as “Claymation” –  from his booming success in the 80s & 90s, we still know his art today – The California Raisins, The Adventures of Mark Twain, and even the beloved M&Ms characters. Claydream tells the true story of how Will created his empire with big aspirational dreams driven by creativity, but an ever-evolving business nipping at his heels. Take a look at the trailer and let us know if you are on board!

Synopsis: Known as the “Father of Claymation,” Will Vinton revolutionized the animation business during the 1980s and 90s, creating such iconic characters as the California Raisins and Domino’s The Noid. But after thirty years of being the unheralded king of clay, Vinton’s carefully sculpted American dream came crumbling down. Structured around interviews with this charismatic pioneer and his close collaborators, along with a treasure trove of clips of their work together, CLAYDREAM charts the rise and fall of the Oscar®- and Emmy®-winning Will Vinton Studios. Documentarian Marq Evans brings to life the battle between art and commerce in this affectionate, insightful portrait of an artist who put so much of himself into his craft.
