Patton Oswald and Jordon Blum Discuss ‘M.O.D.O.K.’

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”15628″ img_size=”800×450″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]When Hulu and Marvel announced their joint venture in four adult oriented animated series, you might have noticed Patton Oswald’s name attached to M.O.D.O.K. Most people know Oswald from his time on King of Queens with Kevin James as well as his cable comedy specials. So why would He be attached to a Marvel property?

Besides his well known love of the comic genre, Oswald is no stranger to Marvel as he has had a reoccurring role in Marvel’s Agents of Shield as siblings Eric and Sam Koenig. When it comes to M.O.D.O.K, Oswald has a kinship with the character as he recently revealed in an interview with Marvel. Com.

I could not be more excited for you guys to see what we do with M.O.D.O.K.,” Oswalt said. “He’s the character I was, sadly, born to play.”

For those of you not familiar with the character, M.O.D.O.K. was known as George Tarleton, an employee of AIM who was the subject of mutagenic experimentation to boost his intelligence. It succeeded in its initial goal but left him with a grotesquely oversized head and a small body that limited him to the use of a flying chair for mobility. Eventually M.O.D.O.K. as he is then known (Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing), rebels against his creators (as almost all creations do) and assumes control of AIM.

It will be the Character’s struggle to find balance in maintaining his control of his evil organization with the demands of his  family, which in a sense is the problem ALL mutated geniuses have. For Co-Producer Jordan Blum this makes him relatable in a weird sense.

Over the years he’s been portrayed as both a menace and a joke and I think our show is much more interested in exploring him as a human being. A human being who’s also a Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing! At the end of the day M.O.D.O.K. is a giant-headed, petulant, insecure, egomaniac with zero social skills. And I for one find that incredibly relatable.

For those familiar with the Jack Kirby/Stan Lee creation, are you excited to see what Oswald and Blum can do with the character? Share your hopes with us at GVNation.
