While fans patiently await the release of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians television show, we can look forward to all the updates we continue to receive about the series. Today, series star Aryan Simhadri (Cheaper by the Dozen) posted an Instagram photo, and it seems the new kids at Camp Half-Blood are having a great time on set. The series will follow the story of Percy Jackson, the demigod son of Poseidon, which will lead him to attend summer camp with similar kids like him.
Simhadri, who posted the photo in celebration of Percy Jackson’s birthday, congratulated the star, Walker Scobell (The Adam Project), on celebrating the fictional character on set for the first time in character. Also in the photo is the third member of the team, Leah Sava Jeffries (Beast), who is starring as the boys’ best friend, Annabeth Chase. Simhadri will play Grover Underwood. Although we don’t have many details on the upcoming series as of now, Rick Riordan, the author of the novel series, who is very involved with the production, has guaranteed fans of the series will stay true to the source material. The 2010 and 2014 films were both extremely disappointed by fans as they completely disregarded the books’ storylines. The films were such a disappointment that ultimately led to the cancellation of a franchise due to the dreadful box office numbers they brought in.
Rick Riordan, who often goes to his own website and provides updates on whichever projects he’s working on, posted Simhadri’s picture in a blog post, and shared his excitement about the trio.
“Every day, they are bringing the fire to their performances, working hard to make this show the best ever, but they also seem to be having the time of their lives, which is awesome to see! It’s a true privilege to watch them work every day. I understand there may be birthday cake on set later today. You can be sure I will find it, if so!”
The series will also feature Virginia Kull, Glynn Turman, Jason Mantzoukas, Megan Mullally, Charlie Bushnell, and Timm Sharp. As of now, there is no set release date, but Riordan has let fans know that Disney+ is eyeing an early 2024 release date.
