‘PREDATOR’ Producers Reveal New Film’s Title and Hint at Plot Details

A new Predator movie is on the way from director Dan Trachtenberg and writer Patrick Aison. And in a new interview with Collider, producers John Davis and John Fox revealed the upcoming movie’s title and some details about its plot.

Skull

According to the producers, the new Predator film’s title is Skull, and it will explore the Predator’s first journey to Earth. The film also features a female hero, though details about the character – or the actress playing her – remain unknown. Neither producer would reveal when the film was set, other than a very vague “early.”

The two producers did tease a bit of what fans could expect from the film. According to Davis, Skull shares some commonalities with the original Predator. He elaborated, saying:

“It goes back to what made the original Predator movie work. It’s the ingenuity of a human being who won’t give up, who’s able to observe and interpret, basically being able to beat a stronger, more powerful, well-armed force.”

Fox added that the new film also bears some similarities to 2015’s The Revenant, though he wouldn’t go into any details about how. Instead, he just said audiences would understand once they’d seen the film.

With the producers estimating filming is nearly 3/4 complete, they’ve seen quite a few dailies. And they’re very happy with what they’ve seen. Davis praised Trachtenberg’s work, saying:

“Dan is a brilliant director. And watching dailies, you just understand how his vision is completely unique. He’s got his own language and it’s fresh and it’s cool, and it’s interesting.”

As for the film’s rating? The producers are unsure. Davis elaborated, saying:

“Well, it all depends on how you end up cutting it, right? It was conceived as an R-rated movie. It could easily end up PG-13. I guess I’m going to find out what it has to be or what it is when it’s all cut together.”

How It Compares to the Original Film

Naturally, any sequel to Predator is going to be compared to the original film. But Fox and Davis believe Skull is a worthy successor to the original. Davis elaborated, saying:

“It’s going to be, I believe, the second best — or the first… or it may be equal to the first one. Right? I feel like the first one was a wonderful, interesting movie and I know what worked about it. I feel like we kind of never got back there again. We ended up in different places. I think this is a worthy complement to the first one. It’s going to be as good.”

Are you excited about the new Predator film? What would you like to see in it?
