Red Dead 2 Online’s latest Update Adds New Missions, World Changes and Poker

Red Dead 2’s latest online update is bringing a lot of changes and updates to the table. There’s some new co-op mission to play through, changes and additions to the open world, a new PvP gamemode and probably the most requested addition, poker.

Co-operative missions

The update adds various different co-op missions to Red Dead online to further the story along. The official description reads as follows:

“The revenge saga of Jessica LeClerk continues today with new missions for both honorable and dishonorable players in A Land of Opportunities. After the epic showdown in Fort Mercer that concluded the last series of missions, players will help Mrs. LeClerk get closer to the truth behind the murder of her husband. In the more honorable Gunslinger path, battle the Del Lobos gang and help Marshall Tom Davies save Valentine – and his own neck.

In the Outlaw strand, outwit lawmen to assist Samson Finch in highway robbery, and pull off a daring high-stakes theft at the Saint-Denis Bank. Both paths lead to a rendezvous in Blackwater with a dangerous adversary”.

Free Roam World Updates

Red Dead Redemption 2’s online free roam world has also received some new additions in the form of missions and events. The missions include characters which can be found in the games single player story mode such as Thomas the Skiff Captain found down in Bayou Nwa or the Aberdeen brother and sister Pig Farmers who have a very close relationship if you catch my drift. Players can look out for more characters from the story mode to show up in the online free roam world in the future.

The world will now also have dynamic events, similar to the single player version of the wild west. Players can stumble across lost travelers in need of help or maybe some bandits looking to try their luck at robbing a lone stranger. Keep your wits about you and there’s XP, honor, cash and even gold to be earned.

Posse Versus Challenges

There are various different posse challenges now availbe for you to play among your friends including Competitive fishing, testing who can reel in the biggest fish before the time runs out, a Bird Shooting Contest which tests who can, you guessed it, shoot the most birds, and even a Herb Picking Contest to see who can collect the most plants.

Poker

A highly requested feature for Red Dead Online is now finally in the game, Poker! You can take on your friends in invite-only matches or play at the public tables with higher buy-ins but also higher rewards. Poker can be played at any of these 5 locations: Blackwater, Saint-Denis, Tumbleweed, Valentine and Flatneck Station.

Lemat Revolver

The new 9-round revolver, the Lemat Revolver can switch between rapid-fire rounds and a devastating buckshot round for close range. It can be purchased from  Wheeler, Rawson and Co. Catalogue.

There are also new clothing items and emotes to buy and for any new players who might join Red Dead Online this week they will receive a gift of 25 shiny gold bars and some nice bonus XP to help them get started.

New Gamemode – Overrun Showdown

In the game’s latest gamemode players must hold their own territories, whilst also trying to sneak behind enemy lines and capture the enemy teams land. Whoever holds the most land at the end wins. Does Overrun Showdown sound like a gamemode you’d be excited to try out?

Aside from new content the update also makes some major changes to the hostility system. The Hostility System will now track aggressive behavior making hostile players visible to others and players will no longer receive Hostility or Bounty increases for defending themselves against a player who is blipped as an enemy.

There are also some balancing changes and improvements including the removal of the Auto-Aim Headshot Tracking (Enemy Players Only), new Daily Challenge Updates, some new Control Scheme Variants and, increased Gold Payouts to name a few.

PS Plus players will also be able to play Red Dead Online right now for free as part of a trial period from now until May 27th so if you’re unsure about getting Red Dead 2 because of it’s multiplayer give it a try and see what you think. Also, PS4 players will receive early access to new upcoming content.
