Yesterday the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy made a statement on Twitter regarding the firing of James Gunn last week. James was fired over a week ago after tweets the director made were brought to the publics attention. The tweets were from years ago but included comments referring to rape and pedophilia, this led Disney to act fast and let the director go. Many of the cast members, other actors, directors and journalists came out in defense of James. There was even a petition created to have James reinstated which has over 350,000 signatures. This week actress Selma Blair quit Twitter over the situation. Disney for the most part has been quiet after the news broke but according to Variety that might soon change. Variety is reporting:
“Sources say there has been a growing feeling that Gunn could be reinstated, especially because Marvel and Disney have been unusually radio-silent on who could replace him since the firing.”
They also indicate that Guardians of the Galaxy 3 goes into production soon and with no word on Disney hiring or even looking for a new director this might also be a sign that Disney could bring James back. Variety reports that Disney Chairman Bob Iger is on leave and the company could be waiting for him to return before making any decisions.
How do you feel about this? Should Disney rehire James Gunn just to save the film or should they move on and find someone else? There is no doubt that whatever Disney decides it will be met with backlash. Leave us a comment below or give us a follow on Twitter @GeekVibesNation.
