With the impending Avengers: End Game, this will mark the fourth film that the Brothers Russo have directed for Marvel Studios. Each one more successful than the last. With the insane amount of work that has been involved in this climax of the Infinity Saga, you could forgive the Russo’s for not thinking too much about their future endeavors. Although, if Avengers: End Game turns the kind of business expected, they can pretty much write their own ticket to whatever job they could want. Recently, MTV News interviewed the Russos at this past week’s CinemaCon and asked them if they would ever think to direct a DCEU film.
I mean, our brains are so fogged at this point that I don’t know we can consider anything. But, you know, you never say, “never.”
Of course, the idea of a director working on both DC and Marvel films is not a new concept. Avengers Director Josh Whedon took over for Zack Snyder on Justice League (a massive sore spot for many) and more recently, James Gunn will be directing DC’s Suicide Squad and finish his Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy for the MCU. With those examples it would not completely unheard of for the Russos to take on a DC film. However, they might have another idea in mind. The Secret Wars…as explained by Joe Russo.
I keep saying Secret Wars, cause that was one of the first books that I really fell in love with as a kid, was Secret Wars,” Joe said. “This notion of like, you know, event storytelling, and I think that’s part of the reason that we gravitate so strongly towards these event films and these ensemble films. The notion that like you can contain so many different characters, and so many different points of view, and galvanize them around a story point is really compelling to us.
Would you like to see the Russo Brothers take on a DCEU film? Or would you rather them take on what they had have been fans of since childhood, The Secret Wars? Share your next assignment for the Russo Brothers with us here at GVNation.
