Contrary to popular belief, directors leave projects they were previously attached to. It is, however; a shame when a director leaves a highly anticipated movie. Especially when he directed the original movie, which was a success. Scott Derrickson directed the first Doctor Strange and was set to direct the sequel “The Multiverse of Madness”, but he just announced that that is no longer the case.
Marvel stated via Variety:
“Marvel Studios and Scott Derrickson have amicably parted ways on ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ due to creative differences. We remain grateful to Scott for his contributions to the MCU.”
Derrickson added that the decision was a mutual one:
Marvel and I have mutually agreed to part ways on Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness due to creative differences. I am thankful for our collaboration and will remain on as EP.

This will certainly change the feel of the movie and fans will not be happy that Derrickson won’t return to direct, especially because The Multiverse of Madness is so anticipated. We have to imagine that Marvel may already have an idea of who they want to bring on to take over the project and we should keep in mind that this isn’t the first time a director has left the project. Let’s see what a new face will do for the sequel and remain positive that the second Doctor Strange will be even better than the first!
