Red (Krew Boylan) lost her job as a real estate agent, but there’s something no one can take away from her: her dream of becoming the world’s greatest Dolly Parton impersonator! After her act attracts the attentions of an amorous Elvis impersonator (Rose Byrne) and a powerful booking agent (Bobby Cannavale), Red is catapulted into the top tier of copycat acts, becoming the onstage and romantic partner of the top Kenny Rogers impersonator. But when Red’s life as an imitator starts to feel false, she discovers true happiness comes when you’re being the best version of yourself.

Video Quality
Lionsgate Home Entertainment brings Seriously Red to Blu-Ray with a rich 1080p video presentation in its original 1.85:1. The image is virtually spotless with the bright natural color palette popping off the screen. The film employs nice splashes of bold colors within the striking costumes and production design which makes for a visual treat. The highlights show no signs of blooming, and the black levels are appropriately deep and inky with no obvious digital noise. The flesh tones are natural with a magnificent amount of detail present in close-ups, especially in the makeup. The presentation provides a substantial amount of depth on display, especially in the interior shots of certain venues. The shifting production design, along with the fabrics of the flashy clothing, provide crystal clear textural details. This is as solid of a presentation as any modern movie should offer up on Blu-Ray.
Audio Quality
This Blu-Ray comes with a more than capable DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio track that brings this tale to life perfectly. The music is the beating heart of the film as it fills the speakers in a delightful, well-balanced way. There are a few exaggerated moments in the film that engage the low end, but it is not a showcase in that regard. Dialogue always comes through crisp and clear without being clipped by any competing sounds. There is little in the way of big, kinetic sequences, but the environmental sounds of each setting engage the surround speakers in a really pleasing way. Ambient sounds such as cheering crowds are precisely placed in the rear channels. The audio track is not pushed to the limit with this content, but it nonetheless proves to be an wonderful sounding presentation for this feature. There are optional English SDH and Spanish subtitles provided.
Special Features
- Audio Commentary: Director Gracie Otto provides a pretty decent commentary track that focuses a lot on commenting on what is happening on screen while providing great background information on the production process, working with the ensemble and more. There are small stretches of silence, but Otto has a good amount to say about this one.
Final Thoughts
Seriously Red is a pretty solid comedy which offers more clever and gut-busting laughs than outward appearances might lead you to believe. Early on the film positions itself to be a new cult favorite, but the latter half of the movie slows down when it comes to laughs as it tries to properly land the inspirational elements. While still entertaining, this does feel like a bit of a letdown for a film with such a clear wit and bite out of the gate. Lionsgate Home Entertainment has released a Blu-Ray with a pretty excellent A/V presentation and a good audio commentary. Do not let the Hallmark premise fool you; this film offers raunchy, hilarious exchanges that will have you laughing out loud, even if it cannot sustain itself until the end. Recommended
