Showtime Lets Go of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Kingkiller Chronicle

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”29716″ img_size=”900×500″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]Showtime has passed on Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Kingkiller Chronicle. This pricey fantasy drama had previously ignited a bidding war before landing at Showtime, which has now released the show back to Lionsgate Television. The producers are already shopping the project around. Kingkiller Chronicle is based on the best-selling novel series by Pat Rothfuss. Apple TV+ is among one of the outlets that it’s being shopped to; Showtime and Lionsgate have declined to comment.

The series is an origin story that is setting up a generation before the events of the first novel in the trilogy, The Name of the Wind. Kingkiller Chronicle is planned as a companion alongside a feature film that will adapt Rothfuss’s books. Lionsgate is also planning interactive games.

Kingkiller Chronicle will depict the life and times of a magically gifted young man named Kvothe, who is also a famous musician. In the series, we will follow a pair of wandering performers who travel to the world of Temerant – which includes unexpected heroes, mystical places, and dark forces.

This decision to abandon Kingkiller Chronicle comes after the parent company CBS Corp. agreed to re-merge with the company Viacom, which gives them access to all of Viacom’s IP to potentially adapt.

What do you think of Showtime releasing Kingkiller chronicle?
