The Hype Is Strong For Spaceballs 2, Father’s Brother’s Nephew’s Cousin’s Former Roommate Featured

The hits just keep on comin’ with Spaceballs fans as the finale of the non-parody Skywalker saga comes to an end this December with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Now, something’s crept up on the web yet again with what looks to be a fan-made poster of a Mel Brooks sequel entitled, Spaceballs: The Rise of the Schwartz posted by Twitter user Shawn Nada or @Shawn_Nada.

Yes, I do wonder what Mel Brooks would think of this parody, hopefully he’ll answer. I was really sold on the graphic, especially the part where there’s a nod to the portion of the Spaceballs movie when Lone Starr is facing off with Dark Helmet. That gave me a belly laugh right there. And much later, after squinting and taking an even closer look, instead of fighting on a rocky precipice like their Lucasfilm counter-parts, you see Dark Helmet and Lone Starr fighting upon the iconic RV vehicle/space ship.

Spaceballs 2 Hype And Hope STILL Prevalent

But this isn’t the only time since the resurgence of the Star Wars franchise has stirred Spaceballs parody fans to bring forth and keep asking questions about a sequel. Some time ago, posters which appeared at a subway station showed a battered helmet, not much unlike that of Darth Vader’s in The Force Awakens, which his grandson had kept with him and had been obsessing over. Jedi News tweeted it, but originally was sourced from the jn_archive Instagram account.

The Spaceball 2’s fandom train continued when The Schwartz Awakens posters were tweeted by The Tangent Agency. They really nailed it with the all three different types.

Princess Vespa/Daphne Zuniga Had Many Talks About The Space Spoof

Upon further researching more about Spaceballs 2 I saw a tweet by Daphne Zuniga back in 2015 expressing a confirmation of a development of a sequel via Blastr, now Syfy Wire.

There are quite a few videos going around and a recent one with Daphne would be that of Birmingham’s MCM Comic Con where she spoke about the most commonly asked question she gets. It was basically a question asking what it was like working with Mel Brooks. From the sound of it, she is really impressed with the kind of energy he has for his age as well as embracing his fandom.

At the time of this quick interview, Zuniga did say something about writers Thomas Meehan and Brooks currently working on a project so she was  hopeful that Spaceballs 2 would be next on deck.

Mel Brooks Appearances And Spaceballs

NJPAC tweeted a short video where Mel talks about putting together a sequel due to the “explosion” that Lucasfilm has provided for us. He said that “MGM is slightly interested in doing it” so the hype hasn’t died down obviously as fans continue to provide photoshopped posters and graphics of the hopeful spoof.

I also wanted to mention another nicely done graphic by The Back Lot Project which celebrated the history of Brooks’ movies, celebrating with a “Schwartz Awakens” poster. I would say this kind teases a sequel not unlike the subway posters.
