What’s with Kylo’s Vader helmet obsession and Rey going it alone in new Star Wars 9 teaser?

Star Wars 9 ends the saga, but new D23 expo footage reveals more of Kylo Ren’s Darth Vader helmet obsession as well as a nod to Luke’s Vader encounter at Degobah via Rey’s going it alone in new teaser.

Star Wars 9, entitled The Rise of Skywalker, finishes off the nine-part series of the whole Skywalker saga. I couldn’t help but to think that the folks at Lucasfilm is attempting to appeal to the mass’ nostalgia bone by seriously focusing on that name. At the recent D23 Expo, footage or a second teaser was revealed. It was only made available to those viewing at the panel and I am guessing, without a doubt, that it could become available in the future.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”28702″ img_size=”900×500″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]

The ominous vibe of the nod to Dagobah throwback

That said, footage description was made available via IGN and although it is very brief and shows repeat footage from the first teaser, I got the vibe that the NEW footage gives unto fans a serious throwback to when Luke enters the cavern at Dagobah in Empire Strikes Back.

Star Wars 9’s D23 Expo teaser footage revealed Rey in dialogue with Finn. I would think fans of from the 80s would get the same throwback vibe as I have regarding this very dialogue. Here’s a portion of IGN’s description to provide context:

“Then we get a quick cut to John Boyega’s Finn standing inside a structure with daylight shining in from above as Rey tell him, “It’s too dangerous.” Then we see the pair talking in the same shot and Rey continues and says, “I have to go alone.”

To me this immediately screams a throwback to Luke’s vision involving his encounter with Vader at Dagobah. I’m assuming she’ll not need her weapons, but bring them anyway? As it turns out, Luke does draw his lightsaber only because his vision of Vader had done so. This resulted in Luke immedatiately vanquishing Vader with a chopped off head. Luke sees just Vader’s helmet and then it explodes revealing Luke’s face which was likely symbolic of what would occur if he was swayed to the Dark Side.

What’s with Kylo Ren’s Vader helmet obsession?

Star Wars 9, I am guessing, may not be without its throwbacks and nods to the original trilogy. That being said, could Kylo Ren’s focus on his grandfather’s helmet result in some kind of outcome?

Could Kylo’s obsession with Vader’s  damaged helmet be somehow connected to what we saw in Luke’s Empire Strikes Back vision? Could Kylo Ren be attempting to use the Dark Side to derive information or conjure up a vision or a vision quest himself that could markedly resemble The Empire Strike’s Back?  So many questions.

I couldn’t help but theorize myself that Lucasfilm could be trying to titillate fans with nods and throwbacks by making the conclusion to the Skywalker saga quite epic and thus my speculative thoughts on the matter and what I’ve derived from the recently described teaser a la D23.

I couldn’t help but think about yet another throwback involving a possible Darth Vader, Emperor, and Luke Skywalker defining moment regarding the failed “meeting of the minds” attempt reminiscent of what occurred at the end of Return of the Jedi where Vader feels conflicted and tosses Palpatine over the railing and into a seemingly bottomless chasm.

Of course, at the end of the first teaser when hearing Emperor Palpatine’s laugh and then seeing Ian McDiarmid saying, “Roll it again!” at the recent Celebration convention, this resulted in what was conjured up in my head when it comes to bringing back the same feels for Star Wars fans as where it ended with them at the conclusion of the MIDDLE trilogy.
