In the category of you never know where you might find a good story, Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Partners have purchased the film rights of author Tony Lunedi’s ghost story The Spire in the Woods. This tale was originally found in the “No Sleep” subreddit section. Amblin is partnering with Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee and Jon Berg to adapt the story which is now entitled The Bells.
The Spire in the Woods follows the tale of a teenage boy who believes that his friend’s suicide is connected to a local, supernatural legend. It was originally a 10 part series on Reddit in 2013. It wasn’t until 2017 however, that Lunedi published the story in book form.
This is not the first work found on Reddit that has been picked up for film adaptation. Recently it was announced that Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds will produce The Patient Who Nearly Drove Me Out of Medicine, written by Jasper DeWitt which was also found in the “No Sleep” section.
With stories being plucked from Reddit, it gives future authors yet another avenue to get their work noticed. Have you ever read any of the fiction being posted on Reddit?
