In celebration of its 30th anniversary, SYFY has announced a slate of new and returning shows set to air on the network. Joining previously announced renewals including the second seasons of Resident Alien and Chucky are new shows Reginald the Vampire and The Ark and the new film Bring It On: Cheer or Die. But perhaps most surprising is the announcement that SurrealEstate is getting a second season in 2023 – a reversal of its cancelation last fall. Read on for more information about SYFY’s upcoming lineup.
Returning Shows
SurrealEstate (Season 2)
After having been canceled last fall, SYFY announced today that SurrealEstate has been uncanceled and is set to return for a second season sometime in 2023. Starring Tim Rozon, Sarah Levy, Tennille Read, Adam Korson, Maurice Dean Wint, and Savannah Basley, SurrealEstate follows a real estate company that specializes in selling haunted properties. George Olson, Lance Samuels, Daniel Iron, Armand Leo, and Danishka Esterhazy served as executive producers for season 1. Blue Ice Pictures and Take The Shot Productions served as producers.
Resident Alien (Season 2, Part 2)
After airing the first half of its second season earlier this year, Resident Alien is set to return later this summer with another batch of episodes. Starring Alan Tudyk and Sara Tomko, Resident Alien follows the mishaps of an alien hiding out in a small town. UCP produces the series in association with Amblin TV and Dark Horse Entertainment. Chris Sheridan, Mike Richardson, Keith Goldberg, Justin Falvey, Darryl Frank, Robert Duncan McNeill, Christian Taylor, and Nastaran Dibai serve as executive producers.
Chucky (Season 2)
After a successful first season last fall, the second season of Chucky began production last month. Featuring the return of most of its cast – including Jennifer Tilly, Brad Dourif, Zackary Arthur, Björgvin Arnarson, Alyvia Alyn Lind, Alex Vincent, Christine Elise, and Devon Sawa, Chucky continues the misadventures of the iconic killer doll. The second season is set to air later this fall on both SYFY and USA Network. Don Mancini serves as executive producer and showrunner. UCP produces the series while David Kirschner, Nick Antosca, Alex Hedlund, and Harley Peyton also serve as executive producers.
New Shows and Movies
Reginald the Vampire
Based on the book series by Johnny B. Truant, Reginald the Vampire sees Jacob Batalon (Spider-Man: Homecoming, Far From Home, No Way Home) as the titular vampire who discovers he has a set of unrecognized powers. Mandela Van Peebles and Em Haine also star. Reginald the Vampire is produced by Great Pacific Media, Modern Story Company, December Films, and Cineflix Studios. Executive producers include Harley Peyton, Jeremiah Chechik, Todd Berger, Lindsay Macadam, Brett Burlock, and Peter Emerson.
Imagine a world populated by beautiful, fit and vain vampires. Reginald Andres (Jacob Batalon) tumbles headlong into it as an unlikely hero who will have to navigate every kind of obstacle – the girl he loves but can’t be with, a bully manager at work and the vampire chieftain who wants him dead. Fortunately, Reginald discovers he has a few unrecognized powers of his own. A new show with a lot of heart and just enough blood, “Reginald the Vampire” proves the undead life is just as complicated as life itself
The Ark
Starring Christie Burke, Richard Fleeshman, Reece Ritchie, Stacey Read, and Ryan Adams, The Ark follows a spaceship on a colonization mission as it tries to survive a catastrophic event. Dean Devlin and Jonathan Glassner serve as co-showrunners and executive producers. Additional executive producers include Marc Roskin and Rachel Olschan-Wilson of Electric Entertainment while Jonathan English of Balkanic Media and Steve Lee serve as producers.
“The Ark” takes place 100 years in the future when planetary colonization missions have begun as a necessity to help secure the survival of the human race. The first of these missions on a spacecraft known as Ark One encounters a catastrophic event causing massive destruction and loss of life. With more than a year left to go before reaching their target planet, a lack of life-sustaining supplies and loss of leadership, the remaining crew must become the best versions of themselves to stay on course and survive.
Bring It On: Cheer or Die
Premiering this fall, Bring It On: Cheer or Die transports the beloved Bring It On franchise straight into the world of horror. Starring Missi Pyle, Kerri Medders, and Tiera Skovbye, Bring It On: Cheer or Die follows a cheerleading squad whose members are disappearing one by one. Karen Lam directs, with a script from Rebekah McKendry and Dana Schwartz (from a story by Alyson Fouse). Armyan Bernstein and Charlie Lyons serve as executive producers. The film is produced by Griff Furst and co-produced by Tony Gonzalez and C. Eve Stewart. It also sees the return of Tony Gonzalez as the film’s choreographer.
A cheer squad’s plan to have a secret practice at a nearby abandoned school on Halloween takes a terrifying turn when their teammates begin disappearing one by one.
