A season finale for a well-established, well-loved show, should be exhilarating, keep you on your toes, wrap up some loose ends, and leave the story open for more. The Boys did just that in their season two finale. The eighth episode came early this week. And it was time to celebrate. Or, time to glue my eyes to the TV for an hour. I couldn’t look away. It was everything I had wanted and so much more than that. This is The Boys. Unexpected shit happens. And for an hour, I could not predict what happened each time. I certainly never predicted that ending.
Very Minor Spoilers
Spoiler: we find out who exploded those heads. Hint: not who you think it. But, I’m keeping my mouth shut after that. WOW. Just such a fantastic episode. The Boys have completely blown my mind. No pun intended. So much had been leading up to these events. Not just from season two alone, but from season one as well. There were some things that went the way you may expect them. Some in ways you didn’t expect. And others, in ways that you had hoped they wouldn’t. But, this is not a world without consequence. It’s good that this series shows that.
The Boys episode eight has it all. An epic battle scene involving Stormfront. Kimiko and Frenchie being soft together. Billy being Billy. And my girl Maeve kicking ass. There were violent scenes – heart-pounding scenes. Scenes that made you want to cry. Honestly, every actor in this show is so talented. The choreography is amazing. The flow of the story. And I mean, seriously; just how smart are they to craft episodes like this? I’m 100% sincere – I don’t want to ruin anything right now. But, inside, I’m freaking out. That finale took my breath away.
Have you wondered what Billy would do in regards to Becca’s son? You find that out. Will Frenchie learn more sign language for Kimiko? What is happening with the Church of the Collective? You find that all out and more. The Boys has such an amazing ability to feel like a superhero universe, yet be so tangible in the real world. In many cases, despite the sometimes bad looking costumes; they’re doing it better than any superhero movie out there. Also, there’s so many characters in this show and yet every single one has their moment to sign.
Rating: 5/5
It was truly great seeing Annie with The Boys and everyone on the same page. It was amazing seeing Homelander kicked down a peg. And the best thing is, I have no idea where season three is going. I don’t mind, though; I just can’t wait to see it. The emotions I have seen this season aren’t comparable. Karl Urban as Billy Butcher, Tomer Kapon as Frenchie, and Karen Fukuhara as Kimiko have given the best emotional performances this season. But, you can really say that about everyone. I have to just give it to Erin Moriarty, Jack Quaid, Dominique McElligott, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Aya Cash, and Antony Starr for bringing it this season. These actors have done something so few really achieve in a TV show. I’m blown away.
You have to watch The Boys season two finale. It. Will. Blow. Your. Mind. 😉
