The Cuphead Show! Plot Details for Netflix’s Upcoming Series

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”25987″ img_size=”700×699″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]Cuphead is officially coming to Netflix! The 2017 side-scrolling shooter which stars Cuphead and Mugman was a smash-hit. And the cause for it to be getting its own animated series on the streaming service. It will be called The Cuphead Show!

Just like the game, the show will feature the 1930’s style animation. It will be hand-drawn, which we see is not something that is practiced these days. The drawing though will not be entirely done on paper and not by Studio MDHR themselves. Instead, it will be done by Netflix’s own in-house animation studio.

The co-creator of Cuphead, Chad Moldenhauer; stated:

“We are not going to be animating this [ourselves] because it would never be finished. The current goal is to stay as far away from [computer-assisted] puppeteer animation as possible. The idea will still be that every frame is hand-drawn [but probably not on paper]. It’s going to be hand-drawn but digitally. ‘Tradigital’.”

The Cuphead Show! Will be safe for children to watch, but also have content that most likely only adults would find humorous. This show is not safe for toddlers or children younger than that.

The press release for the series described the storyline:

“The character-driven comedy follows the unique misadventures of the impulsive Cuphead and his cautious but easily swayed brother Mugman. Through their many misadventures across their surreal home of the Inkwell Isles, they’ve always got one another’s backs.”

When asked to elaborate on the style of comedy that is hoped to be achieved, Chad explained:

“It’s safe for kids, but written so there are also things that adults find funny and appeals to a wider audience. It’s not a toddler show or a little kids cartoon. It’s safe to say that [the showrunners are] aiming for the same kind of vibe that the game hints at. They’ll be taking that idea and expanding it.”

Chad added:

“That is something we don’t quite know just yet. But we do know that we are not going to re-tell the game. This is going to explore other things and not just [Don’t Deal With the Devil].”

Chad’s brother Jared, the co-creator of the game; added:

“The game told its story. The cartoon will tell its [own]. I see it in a Mickey Mouse [cartoon] manner. In any given episode, Mickey Mouse could’ve been a pilot, or selling hot dogs, or a musician. There’s not this intention that the two must mesh and fit together.”

There is no official release date, but we will keep you updated as we find out more.
