The Golden Globes Academy has released its list of nominations and it is going to be a tight race. There is so much talent in the list below that I legitimately can’t think of anyone or anything that has an advantage over the other. From Marriage Story, the Irishman, and Fleabag, there are a lot of heavy hitters here. Mike Colter has been nominated for his performance in the show ‘Evil’ and Paul Rudd has gotten a nod for his part in Netflix’s ‘Living With Yourself’. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Fleabag will compete in both the best performance by an actress in a television series and best television series. I want them both to win!
It shouldn’t be surprising that ‘Jojo Rabbit’ has been nominated, nor that Christian Bale has been nominated for ‘Ford v Ferrari’ (he deserves it). ‘The Farewell’ and ‘Parasite’ have also been nominated and I’m sure one or both will win a Golden Globe for any of the categories they’re in, as the buzz for both films is huge. Joey King and Patricia Arquette both get nominations for their harrowing performances in Hulu’s ‘The Act’. Joe Pesci has been nominated for ‘The Irishman’ and of course, Tom Hanks is nominated for his portrayal of Mr. Rogers in ‘A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood’. And, will Joaquin Phoenix win for his portrayal as the Joker in ‘Joker’? I’m betting yes.
There were snubs, of course. They’re always is in award season. We’ve had so many fantastic movies and TV shows this year and maybe ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ doesn’t deserve all of the praise it’s getting, but not being nominated does not take away from a show, actor, or movie’s worth.
