Many people are reluctant about this news, but many, including myself, are excited that this has been finally confirmed. My goal in this article is to give my thoughts on what Walter Hamada and his team are planning for the future of the Dc films. If you disagree or agree with my thoughts let me know, I would love to discuss this with you all.
There have been many concerns about how Matt Reeves’ Batman will connect with, Pre Walter Hamada, DCEU (MoS, BVS, SS, WW, JL, Aquaman, and Shazam)? During the past few months, we have been getting news suggesting that the previous films will be considered non-canon.
DC film will focus on solo films.
The upcoming slate, with “Shazam,” “Joker,” “Wonder Woman 1984” and “Birds of Prey,” feels like we’re on the right track. We have the right people in the right jobs working on it.
The universe isn’t as connected as we thought it was going to be five years ago. You’re seeing much more focus on individual experiences around individual characters. That’s not to say we won’t at some point come back to that notion of a more connected universe. But it feels like that’s the right strategy for us right now.
A quote from Kevin Tsujihara talks about solo films. It also mentions coming back to a more connected universe. Many of us, including myself, are starting to think that The Batman will be the start of said connected universe.
A good question is If The Batman is the start of a new connected universe what will become of the Pre DCEU? Will it continue after Wonder Woman 1984 and Birds of Prey and if so, what will be the films that continue the old DCEU or will it end?
Mark Hughes, contributor at Forbes thinks it will end. This is what he had to say,
WW84 & BoP in 2020.
SS2 is in 2021.
Aquaman 2 & Trench probably in 2022 & 2023, respectively.
WW3 in a/b 2023.
Maybe Shazam! sequel or Black Adam in 2022 or so.
That leaves Aquaman 3, maybe in 2025.

Rebooting (2016) Suicide Squad / Wonder Woman 1984 is not a sequel to (2017) Wonder Woman.
Suicide Squad
Maybe one of the best things that happen to us nerds was the firing of James Gunn down at Marvel. James Gunn’s firing was a terrible thing, but because of that, we are getting The Suicide Squad and Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3.
Many fans have argued that James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad will not be a reboot saying, “How can it be a reboot if it has the same actors?” Which is a valid argument, but I will counter that by saying that is not the only thing that constitutes a reboot. Here is a definition of a reboot,
In serial fiction, a reboot is a new start to an established fictional universe, work, or series that discards all continuity to re-create its characters, plotlines and backstory from the beginning. – Wiki
James Gunn may bring back some of the same actors(Viola Davis, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, and Jai Courtney), but that does not mean he is doing a continuation of the 2016’s Suicide Squad. I would say that Walter Hamada and his team are making the previous films non-canon (MoS, BVS, SS, WW, JL)
Wonder Woman
Many people still think it is going to be a sequel because it has the same main actors in it and, it is technically the second movie, but it will not going be a continuation to 2017’s Wonder Woman. Everything surrounding this movie screams, NOT A SEQUEL! Now, if in Wonder Woman 1984, Diana talks about Steves death then I will redact my statement, but I highly doubt that will happen.
The worst news surrounding Wonder Woman 1984 was the change of the release date. From December 13, 2019, to November 1, 2019, and now June 5, 2020. In reality, it was not bad news, it is actually good news for two reasons. Patty Jenkins is the one that pushed Wonder Woman 1985 to 2020 and Warner Bros actually went ahead and pushed it back! That tells us that Warner Bros is actually starting to listen to their directors instead of being reactionary.
Aquaman and SHAZAM Connected to Pre-Walter Hamada DCEU
One of the biggest issues I have read has to do with Aquaman and Shazam. Which is, they are connected with the pre-Walter Hamada films. The only reason Aquaman and Shazam were made is that they were already in deep Pre-Production or Post-Production before or as soon as Walter Hamada was put in charge.
Jon Berg and Geoff John are the ones that planned Aquaman and Shazam. Yes! there were reshoots for Shazam, but nothing was heavily changed, that includes references, the tone, or anything people were speculating. The same goes for Aquaman, it had reshoots but it was not to change anything but to only include.
