The Hunt’s Marketing Pulled In Wake of Shooting Massacres

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”27317″ img_size=”825×464″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]Movies are just movies, but real life sometimes warrants a more sensitive approach to cinema. We love blood and guts on the big screen, but when fiction becomes reality we must take a step back. That is what Universal is doing for the marketing for Blumhouse’s The Hunt. In light of recent events where mass shootings have taken the lives of 34 people in El Paso, Texas; Dayton, Ohio; and Gilroy, California; it’s only right.

A studio rep stated:

“Out of sensitivity to the attention on the country’s recent shooting tragedies, Universal Pictures and the filmmakers of The Hunt have temporarily paused its marketing campaign and are reviewing materials as we move forward.”

The Hunt, though; will still be released on September 27th. According to Deadline, there won’t be any TV/Digital spots for the film, nor any outdoor advertisements. Just last weekend ESPN pulled an ad for The Hunt that had previously been approved. AMC, however; aired a spot during The Preacher’s season premiere.

This isn’t the first time studios have done this. The Punisher’s first season was set to drop on Netflix about a month before it did, but the streaming service pushed it back due to the Las Vegas shootings. Mr. Robot even postponed its season one finale due to the similarities of the events of the show and the real-life on-air shooting of a reporter.

We can only hope, and take action; that these senseless and unnecessary acts of violence stop, and respect Universal’s decision when it comes to advertising The Hunt.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
