The Most Popular NFL Teams That People Bet On

GVN NFL 2

NFL Betting.

The NFL is without a doubt the most popular sports league in the United States. Although the NBA, NHL, and MLS are all popular, nothing quite compares to the NFL, in popularity in the love for the game, or in the popularity for betting on it as a sport.

In fact, the 8 most watched events in United States history are all Super Bowls. However, teams are not just favored by their skill on the field, or by the legendary players who win the matches, but by who is best to bet on. Of course, this changes throughout history as different teams have winning streaks as the players change over time.

Betting in the NFL is super easy, and most of the time the most popular bet types are betting on the money line, or betting on the spread. But we know what you want to know, who are the most popular NFL teams to bet on.

Most bet on NFL teams.

The NFL is a gambler’s favorite sport, with a good 65% of the total $2.6 billion spent in sports gambling being bet on football teams. However, a majority of the bets places are placed on just 22 of the 122 in the four major leagues of NFL football.

Today we will look at the top five in descending order from the fifth most popular to the first

#5. The Oakland Raiders.

Oakland is amongst the most storied franchises in the NFL. For nearly its entire history, the team has either been coached or owned and managed by Al Davis, who has not long passed away. John Madden also coached the Raiders for a decade as well.

This is the only team in the NFL franchise to play Super Bowls in the 1960s, 70s, and 80s. However, lately the team has fallen on harder times, posting the second-worst record in the NFL in the 00s, trailing only behind the Detroit Lions. Despite this, due to its history in the league, this team still remains to be one of the most popular teams to bet on in football.

Perhaps people simply yearn for a comeback by the Raiders.

#4. The Green Bay Packers.

The Packers have been doing well since the turn of the century, and they have a fairly good attendance record in their games. This team is one of the most popular sports franchises in its history. The Packers have played in a fair number of Super Bowls and have won 4. One of their biggest achievements was having won the first two Super Bowls in the NFL.

People still love and support the Green Bay Packers, and hence, they are still bet on a great deal to this day.

#3. The Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have upped their game in recent years, and have a total of 6 Super Bowl wins to their name. They won four of these Super Bowls in a six-year period in the 70s under Terry Bradshaw, and they were also very successful in the 00s as well. They have also had a good run outside the Super Bowl, although they have dipped slightly, and we haven’t seen as much of them in the last decade, we are certain they’ll make a comeback, as are the bettors.

#2. The Dallas Cowboys.

Throughout history the Cowboys have one of the biggest attendances, in the 00s they had a soaring attendance record. From the late 70s onwards, they were known as America’s team. They won two Super Bowls in the 70s and another three in the 90s. It’s been a bit of dead air for them since, but fans still hold hopeful.

#1. The New England Patriots.

The patriots have done very well in the past, and they have a high record of being in Super Bowls, even if they aren’t winning them. They won the 2014, 2016, and 2018 Super Bowls recently, and they have 6 Super Bowl wins in total. Having appeared in a total of 10 Super Bowls, with most of their wins and appearances having been since the turn of the Century. If you’re betting on a team to win, we would go with the Patriots.

However, based on recent winnings, betting popular isn’t always a smart bet, the Buccaneers are rearing their heads, as are the Kansas City Chiefs, and the San Francisco 49ers. If recent Super Bowl appearances are anything to go by, all of these are worth keeping a close eye on.
