The New and Improved DCU Might Be Just What DC Needs

For as long as I can remember, superhero movies have come down to two brands: Marvel and DC. And since 2008, Marvel has dominated the conversation, even with Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight series. Once could say that DC hasn’t been helping themselves by trying to copy the MCU formula, and failing miserably. The Hollywood  Reporter just released an article talking about how DC seems to be going in a more standalone direction rather than trying to connect each film like Marvel does.

However, there are people out there who believe that DC is going to try a new formula, and could start as early as the Aquaman film. The big reveal here is that DC is just going to be DC. Shocking, I know. But if you look back at the trailers shown at San Diego Comic Con, you can clearly see a big difference in the tone of the films and the tone of films like Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, Man of Steel, and Justice League. DC is letting their directors have more control, letting their movies standalone, and doing what it should have done from the get go: be DC. Be fun, be dark (when you need to be), be entertaining, and don’t try to be Marvel.

What are your thoughts regarding DC? Do you like the new direction they’re heading in, or do you prefer the darker movies? Let us know below in the comments!

Striving to make well-received movies, ISN’T a formula!? The Green Lantern movie wasn’t a dark movie, nor was it connected to another DC movie, and it still bombed. The directors and producers in charge of the DC films, simply need to do a better job at adapting the DC properties.
