In honor of the new series coming out August 23, 2023, Ahsoka lets rewind the clock back to 2008 with The Clone Wars film; directed by Dave Filoni. Ahsoka wasn’t just a character that wasn’t just disliked, but hated by a lot of people in the Star Wars Community. From calling Anakin Skyguy to her overall attitude in the film; calling her an annoying character that showed no respect.
With that said, I was one of the few that defended Ahsoka as a character. Asking the question to those that didn’t like her; how is a kid supposed to act? If anything Dave Filoni has created a character that is true to life. An energetic, disobedient child full of life. Much like how Anakin was with being Obi-Wan student and still even after becoming a master. I’m not saying you didn’t have to like her since everyone has a preference, but my defense are to those that were convinced that she should have been this perfect character from the jump.
Even after the 2008 Clone Wars film people were still annoyed with Ahsoka, and I could have sworn many people gave up on the series because of her as well. But those that that stuck through it did speak it praises especially during season three, and that’s where Ahsoka’s character lifted off on a positive notes ever since; It might have been earlier, like season two, but season three is where I remember when everyone started loving the series and less hate towards Ahsoka was happening. For those that don’t remover season three was Ahsoka was getting a lot of her development from. From sending Ahsoka to Mandalore to Ahsoka getting captured by a Trandoshan in order to hunt Padawan’s for sport, think “Most Dangerous Game.”
After season three everyone’s love Ahsoka has only skyrocketed, so much so that for a lot Ahsoka has become their favorite in all of Star Wars. Of course she couldn’t have done it alone. Spending with both Anakin and Obi-Wan creating this platonic relationship with the two even between Padmé as well. One can even say Ahsoka was like a baby Sister to them. Even her time with Bo-Katan, and Barriss has made her character as big as it can possibly go!
Now fast forward seven years later with Ashoka’s debut return in Star Wars Rebels: Fires Across The Galaxy. That was one of the, if not the biggest episodes of season one. Many can even say Rebels was the show that garnered most of the Ahsoka fans. Due to how matured she became from The Clone Wars series.
Due to Ahsoka return as the Fulkrun we knew Ahsoka has done a lot for the rebel alliance behind the scenes, but the time we wasn’t sure who the Fulkrun was, and if Ahsoka completely just shut out that world completely, Yoda style. Making Ahsoka’s return one of the best surprises in Star Wars history. And what Dave Filoni did with the character after was incredible. Making Ahsoka a mentor type of character.
Ahsoka being a mentor to both Ezra and Kanan not only made logical sense, but it created something much more entertaining. Not only did Dave Filoni progress Ahsoka’s character with being a mentor it also progressed Ezra’s and Kanan’s character as both Jedi and apprentice. Ahsoka presence help evolve the Ghost crew even more than it was previously. Even outside of the ghost crew Ahsoka by herself just made the story much more livelier.
Whether it was Ahsoka and the inquisitors or Ahsoka and Maul, and even Ahsoka and Darth Vader. Her time facing these enemies showed us how deep her lore was especially if you didn’t watch Clone Wars. Watching Rebels made you want to go back and watch Clone Wars or even re-watched Clone Wars, that’s how good the show was and incredible Ahsoka was and still is!
Now, at this point Ahsoka is as big as some of the best characters like Obi-Wan, Anakin, Luke, Darth Vader. One can even say she is as iconic as these characters in the Star Wars community. And that growth is continuing to leak outside of the community with her time in Mandalorian and now getting her own freaking series that’s releasing August 23, 2023!
