The Stand Episode Two: ‘POCKET SAVIOR’ – Takes Its Time Getting to the Good Stuff

CBS All Access’s The Stand just released its second episode. How was it? Slow. The Stand certainly seems to be taking its time getting to the good stuff. Obviously, episode one had to introduce us to this world. If you aren’t a fan of the book, you may not know what’s going on. Or why the world is a barren wasteland. So, episode one being a little slower made sense. I was really hoping, though; episode two would have picked up.

    Slow Pace

Obviously, episode two made it known that Larry Underwood is an important character. And Jovan Adepo did a good job in fleshing out this character. However, I felt that the episode could have done more than focus on one person. There’s a whole plot to get to and I feel that the show needs to start getting there. We want to see more of Whoopi Goldberg’s Mother Abagail. And most importantly, we want to see more Randall Flagg.

This is Stephen King’s most nefarious villains and you have the perfect actor playing him. I feel that once the show allows Alexander Skarsgard to really stretch his legs then the show will get better. Right now, though; I feel a bit bored. And underwhelmed. This is an end-of-the-world show – it should be capturing us from the first moment, just as The Walking Dead did.

    Rating: 3/5

It seems, as least for now; Castle Rock did a better job in adapting that eeriness that Stephen King is known for. It built suspension to where it held things to the chest, but also didn’t drag. Coincidentally, the first season also starred a Skarsgard sibling – Bill. I know Alexander will be a memorable villain once the show actually gets to it, but I wish they’d hurry up.

What’d you think of The Stand episode two?
