Back in March we broke the news that Disney+ was going to remake Three Men and a Baby. Then we also dropped the first character grid for the remake. Now The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Zac Efron will star in a father role for the Disney+ remake of Three Men and a Baby. Efron born the same year the original was release (1987) is all in on the remake of the comedy.
The remake will be going straight to Disney+ and is set to be produced by Gordon Gray. Gray is mostly known for is sports drama films like Ben Affleck’s The Way Back and The Rookie.
Three Men and a Baby was originally a remake of a French Film. The 1980’s version had an all-star cast with Tom Selleck, Ted Danson, and Steve Guttenberg, three bachelors all living in New York City. The trio finds themselves forced into taking care of a baby left outside their door. They also fall in love with the little bundle of cuteness.
Leonard Nimoy directed the original which was a huge success at the box office. The Disney film was the first live-action film to make over $100 million stateside. Riding on that success a second film was made Three Men and a Little Lady (1990), bringing the cast back together but without Nimoy at the wheel.
The new script was written by Will Reichel and at this time it is unknown how and if the film will be updated. The director’s chair has yet to be filled but Disney is looking at this time.
Ten years ago Efron made his breakout on Disney in the made for television movie High School Musical. Since then he has starred in a wide range of movies from Hair Spray, The Greatest Showman to some say his greatest role yet Ted Bundy in Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil. Currently, you can catch Efron on Netflix in his documentary series Down to Earth. Not only does he star in the documentary he is the executive producer via his production company Ninjas Runnin Wild Productions. The series premiered in July on Netflix and features Efron going around the world exploring sustainability.
