Tom Holland is ruling the world right now as Spider-Man No Way Home continues to dominate cinemas all over the world, despite a pandemic surge. The film has earned over $1.3 billion and does not look to be slowing down. Holland will star in another huge IP later this year when he takes on the role of Nathan Drake in Uncharted.

Holland spoke with Total Film recently and says a pitch to play a young James Bond turned into a role in Uncharted instead.

“I had a meeting, after or during Spider-Man 2 [Far From Home], with Sony to pitch this idea of a young Bond film that I’d come up with,”

Holland says his pitch to make an origin story for James Bond just did not make sense:

“It was the origin story of James Bond. It didn’t really make sense. It didn’t work. It was the dream of a young kid, and I don’t think the Bond estate were particularly interested,”

But from an idea that did not work turned into something else…Uncharted:

“The idea of a young Bond film sparked this idea, in turn, that you could do a Nathan Drake story as an origin story, rather than as an addition to the games. And that opened a conversation,”

Mark Wahlberg and Tom Holland star in Columbia Pictures’ UNCHARTED.

The Uncharted film has been met with backlash from fans, most of who wanted Nathan Fillion to play the role of Nathan Drake. Also Sony has marketed the film as a story about a young Nathan Drake which fits Holland’s age but the movie is taking several moments from the games that happened well into Nathan’s adulthood. Despite all this though, fans are surely going to fill cinema seats to see how it all plays out.

The film is set to be released in the UK on February 11 and in the US on February 18. Whether or not it gets delayed over fears of the Omicron surge remain to be seen.
