Paramount Pictures made the announcement on Wednesday. The sequel, if it now keeps the 2020 release date, will be nearly 35 years after the original came out. As of right now, Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer are set to reprise their roles.
We had reported that Jon Hamm and Ed Harris would be also joining Cruise and Val Kilmer for Top Gun: Maverick. While there are no reports saying that they won’t still be in the sequel, we all know that scheduling conflicts could arise due to the setback. Harris does have prior commitments to HBO’s Westworld, which could possibly premiere late 2019 or 2020, which who knows if that could conflict with Top Gun? And if Jon Hamm ever does fulfill my dream of him becoming Batman that could get in the way too. Okay, wishful thinking, but the point is, anything can happen from here until when they’d begin filming for a 2020 release.
We’ll update you as we find out more.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
