Top Six Movies to Look Forward to in 2019

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”12190″ img_size=”500×500″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]2018 was full of great movies. From Black Panther to Avengers: Infinity War, to the recently released Aquaman, it was a great time at the movie theaters. Now, 2018 is almost over and we have 2019 only a week or so away. What do we have to look forward to in the upcoming year? Well, so much! There’s plenty of great pieces of cinema to look forward to, so as you stare at this narrowed down list, I’d love to hear what you’re wanting to see. Below are the six movies I personally cannot wait to see.

Captain Marvel

Let me revel in the fact that not only are we finally getting our first female-led movie within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but that the Carol Danvers story will be released on March 8th, International Women’s Day. From every trailer that we have seen, Captain Marvel is truly a force to be reckoned with. Brie Larson will bring to life one of the most powerful characters within the comics and certainly the most powerful within the MCU. Not only am I excited for her story, but also the fact that this movie will lead into Avengers: Endgame, where I’m sure Thanos will be sorry that he ever decided to pick a fight with the Avengers.

Avengers: Endgame

Captain Marvel leads me into the next movie that I, among so many; are looking forward to. Avengers: Endgame. Like a good book left on a cliffhanger, we have been waiting for the next installment ever since Infinity War hit the theaters. Endgame will continue the story of the last Avengers movie, showing how our heroes are coping with the deaths of all of their friends. It’s going to be a truly heartfelt story, where we will see our favorite heroes down and defeated before facing Thanos again. Scott Lang and Captain Marvel are the real standouts for me and since this film is presumably the last time we’ll see Chris Evans as Captain America, we know it’s going to be emotional. April 26th may destroy us, but it’ll be worth it.

Toy Story 4

As a 90s child, this choice is purely selfish. The first movie came out in 1995 and the franchise has been beloved by children ever since. The third installment had many of us in tears and full of fear in that infamous scene of our favorite toys scrambling to get out of a nearly impossible situation. How can anything be more heartbreaking than that? Both Tim Allen and Tom Hanks promised a real “tearjerker” in Toy Story 4 and the fact that another Toy Story is coming out in 2019 means both us adults can have a moment of nostalgia and a new generation of children can enjoy these loveable characters.

The Lion King

This is another 90s kids choice. Who didn’t grow up absolutely loving The Lion King? Who hasn’t sung the songs, gone to the Broadway play, and consider it one of the best Disney animated films of all time? Jon Favreau’s rendition looks to be a shot for shot remake of our beloved 1994 version, only with gorgeous CGI and visuals. If you didn’t tear up a little during that trailer then you’re lying to yourself, because this 2019 version of The Lion King is going to be one of the most beautiful pictures to ever be made.

Shazam!

When it was first announced that there was going to be a Shazam! movie made with Zachary Levi, I wasn’t entirely excited. Mostly because I didn’t know the character and upon finding out the premise, I still was skeptical. But, I think we need to appreciate that DC is really looking to shift their tone and direction ever since Aquaman was released, which was amazing by the way. The trailers for the latest Shazam! movie really sets a different tone for a DC film and I personally think this is going to be a lot of fun and a lot of heart. Levi looks to be having fun in his role and the costume looks great.

Joker

Why did we need a standalone Joker movie? Why was there a decision to cast a different actor when we have Jared Leto in the DCEU? The real question is, who cares? Joaquin Phoenix is one of the most talented actors in modern times and his version of the infamous Batman villain looks to be brilliant. Nothing about what we’ve seen has not excited me. From the outfit, the makeup, the behind the scene pictures; everything about this movie is going to be great. Made with a substantially lower budget than the DCEU and focused on the origin of Arthur Fleck (Joker) in the 1970s with Zazie Beetz, this is going to be a great story. Phoenix’s Joker will go down in history alongside Heath Ledger’s, I have no doubt about it.
