CBS All Access will soon be bringing back another classic series to go along with Star Trek Discovery and the new Patrick Stewart led Next Generation reboot. For fans of the original, The Twilight Zone is heading into production. The original The Twilight Zone was created by Rod Serling. Who could forget the iconic opening to the show (first season, version one):
“There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man’s fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call the Twilight Zone.”
The anthology series ran for five years on CBS, from 1959 to 1964 and blended elements of fantasy, science-fiction, horror and satire. In doing so, The Twilight Zone paved the way for many shows that followed it. CBS All Access is hoping to do it again.
The new series is set to start production in just a few months according to executive vice president of original content Julie McNamara.
“We have a [writer’s] room, we have a first season of concepts, outlines, scripts — various stages of all of these things — of that 10 eps a season, We are well on our way, and we are going to start production in the next couple of months.”
The new series, which will be produced by CBS Television Studios in association with Get Out director Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions and X-Men movie director Simon Kinberg’s Genre Films, was given the green light last December. Peele said that the time seemed right to reboot the classic anthology series because, as he put it, “real life feels like a twilight zone.”
“Too many times this year it’s felt we were living in a twilight zone, and I can’t think of a better moment to reintroduce it to modern audiences,“ Peele explained.
When it comes down to who will be running the show, CBS TV Studios president David Stapf felt like due to the series’ anthology format, a specific person might not be required to lead the production.
“Because its anthological you don’t need to look at it as who’s the showrunner,” Stapf said, though McNamara did indicate that Greg Yaitanes would be someone overseeing the project.
At this time, the reboot does not have a release date. Does the prospect of another Twilight Zone excite you or are of the “been there, done that, got the shirt” mindset? Let us at GVNation know.
