Universal Pictures Will Adapt ‘The Chain’ Into a Film That Edgar Wright Will Direct

Universal Pictures has optioned The Chain in a seven-figure deal. The Chain will be an adaptation of the 2019 best-selling novel by Adrian McKinty. Baby Driver’s Edgar Wright has been brought in to direct a script written by Jane Goldman.

The Chains is about a woman named Rachel who finds out that her eleven-year-old daughter has been kidnapped. Rachel must kidnap another child to save her own. Only when the next victim’s parents kidnap a child will Rachel’s daughter be released. If Rachel doesn’t kidnap a child and the parents of that child don’t kidnap a child, Rachel’s child will be killed. The Chain is a meticulous chain letter-like kidnapping scheme that surely will be heart pounding.

The people in charge of The Chain know that parents will do anything to save their child, even if it means kidnapping another parents’ son or daughter. The Chain doesn’t know that Rachel is not their average victim and she will fight back. A cancer survivor, she is determined to “break The Chain” in order to get her kid back.
