Venom: What Could Have Been (Spoilers)

So…did I enjoy Venom?

Sure I did. But being one of my all time favorite villains and stories from Spider-man since I was a kid…I’d be lying if I said I didn’t feel like they could have done SO much more with what they were given.

Obviously everyone knows that I strongly feel venom and carnage should have been the forefront of a Spider-man trilogy. Especially with Tom Holland’s Spidey already bypassing the redundant origin story that we all know. It could have started with the symbiote coming to earth somehow…Ohhh I don’t know, maybe with a spontaneous horror movie about a life form found in outer space that kills everyone just before it violently crashes to Earth? We could call it…DUN DUN DUN…”LIFE”!
Nahhhh, let’s just make that a stand alone movie with a cliche space-horror plot so no-one cares.
Moving on…
The first edition of the Spider-man trilogy could show the symbiote discovering him, thus making him more powerful and evil.  With this new, enhanced suit (that isn’t Stark Tech) he becomes arrogant and careless, possibly leading to a fight between him and Iron Man which leads to Iron Man’s defeat.  The plot wouldn’t need a full-blown villain to counter Spidey because the symbiote and his own self-obsession would be the antagonist.  After finally overcoming the inner conflict with the symbiote, he parts himself from it and later finds its way to Eddie Brock. They could have gone ahead and made a solo movie about Venom, sure. Then made a Spider-man sequel about Mysterio with a post-credit scene that would lead into the ultimate wrap to the Spider-man trilogy: Maximum Carnage!!!

How could they have still done this with an already ruined Venom plot? Well I’m glad you asked, let me tell ya what I was expecting to see!

‘Spoilers’ (kind of?)
The post credit scene was obvious “sequel-bait”, but lacked any real cliff hanger that left us wondering “what’s next?”.  All that we were left pondering was: “wait…so Cletus Kasady is a clown?”
Cliff hangers that leave the audience begging for more need risk and unanswered questions for the main protagonist(s).  At the end of Venom we see Eddie Brock back on his feet and find out that Venom isn’t dead like we were led to believe(…60 seconds ago…)  Then we watch them walk off into the sunset babbling back and forth like Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker.  Best buds.  When the post credit scene begins, we see Eddie Brock walking in a prison to interview a very goofy rendition of Cletus Kasady and nothing else is accomplished besides some banter about how there will be “Carnage” (punny).

How this could have been more effective:

CGI FIGHT! LAST SECOND REDEMPTION!!! EXPLOSIONS!!!!!
Eddie Brock and Venom fall from an exploding rocket after destroying the bad guy, thus saving the world. Venom bids Brock a touching farewell as he burns off of his lover – …I mean loving host.  Eddie crashes into the ocean but is quickly pulled out by the feds who surround him with guns in all directions. The camera zooms out as he is arrested and taken away…  The next scene shows Brock talking to his ex-fiance Annie through a glass wall about getting him out.  Since ya know…she’s an attorney…so she’s obviously working his case.  Nice guy Eddie tells her how she has to find a way to get him out because they put him in a cell with a psychotic serial-killer.  Annie explains that there is nothing she can do.  The movie ends with Eddie being shoved back into his cell to reveal Cletus Kasady and the film ends. (I would have MUCH preferred Cillian Murphy to play Cletus Kasady, but I digress.)
Forward to post credit scene:
Some months later: Enter prison cell with Cletus Kasady rambling on about some psychotic belief while sharpening a make-shift knife. Eddie tries to drown him out while he does push-ups but finally blows up and tells Kasady how he should not be there because he is not a bad person like Kasady. He explains how he will find a way to get out and make sure that Kasady never does. Just then it focuses on a crack in the wall and you see Venom slipping through the cracks. Kasady lashes out at Brock with his knife and suddenly the prison wall breaks open! Venom shoves Kasady back and begins to engulf Eddie Brock. Eddie smiles as Venom covers his face and they become one again: “Told ya”.  Venom jumps out of the prison walls and into the dark night.  He slowly disappears into the woods as red lights flash on and off to the tempo of a screeching alarm.  Cletus Kasady  gets up and walks towards the gaping hole in disbelief while the camera focuses on one dripping remain from the symbiote…right next to Cletus Kasady.
All-in-all it was not a terrible movie, but what are your thoughts on how it could have been?
