‘Walking Dead’ Star Steven Yuen Being Considered For Marvel’s Shang-Chi Role?

Marvel has set a goal for themselves of broadening their diversity in their future projects. Beginning with Captain Marvel they have charted a course that will be highlighted in a number of their upcoming films. Of course, with Marvel’s vaunted secrecy, how they will be proceeding is shrouded by the mystery of the unknown. One of the things that we do know is they are moving forward with ShangChi which will be their first film with an Asian hero taking the lead.

Chinese-American writer Dave Callahan has been selected to the write the script, with Marvel reportedly looking at the possibility of getting Destin Daniel Cretton to direct. Callahan has been a busy writer with Shang-Chi just one of several superhero projects being penned by the talented writer. Those include Wonder Woman 1984 and the newly announced Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2. And as for Cretton, he’s currently working on Just Mercy which is a film with Michael B. Jordan and Brie Larson that he also wrote.

With the writer and possibly the director narrowed down, the choice for a lead for the film is being considered. We Got This Covered recently reported that Marvel has set their sights on former Walking Dead star Steven Yeun, to play the titular role. However, never ones to limit their choices, in addition to Yuen, they are also looking at Mike Moh who will be seen in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time in Hollywood. It is Marvel’s hope that ShangChi will provide a positive cultural experience to audiences in the same manner that Black Panther did, whether it be Yuen, Moh, or someone entirely different taking on the title role.

How do you feel about either Steven Yuen or Mike Moh taking on the role of Shang-Chi? Perhaps, if we’re lucky, the White Tiger would make an appearance as well. Hey, a guy can dream can’t he? Share your dreams with us at GVNation.
