Marvel Studios’ Blade: The Vampire Slayer has a writer, and it’s a first for the studio.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Stacy Osei-Kuffour has been hired to write the script for the Blade reboot. Osei-Kuffour built her superhero chops as a writer on HBO’s Watchmen.
Osei-Kuffour is the first woman of color to write a feature for the studio. This hire continues a trend for Marvel Studios of expanding the diversity of their filmmakers, coming on the heels of Nia DaCosta being hired to direct Captain Marvel 2. Blade stars Mahershala Ali, who takes over the role from Wesley Snipes. Snipes starred in three films as the vampire slayer and put the character on the map.
