As fans have tried to come to grips with the seeming finality of the situation, we are only left to wonder why this matter could not have been resolved. It has been mentioned that this started when the negotiations between Warner Bros. and Cavill’s representatives for a Superman cameo in the upcoming Shazam! Movie fell through. When an agreement couldn’t be reached, both sides went their separate ways and here we are. Although it does make one wonder what might have been. What WOULD that cameo have looked like had a deal had been reached?
Well, according to The Wrap reporter and known DC insider Umberto Gonzalez, it was set to take place at the very end of the movie.
“For what it’s worth,” Gonzalez began, “the Superman cameo in Shazam! was supposed to be Clark at the end of the movie meeting with Billy Batson, the kid who [turns into] Shazam, telling him ‘Hey, we’re gonna keep an eye on you,’ that kind of thing.”
It seems like a simple thing, but that little intertwining of characters could have opened the door for Shazam’s appearance with the Justice League, and any number of stories to be told. Of course it is still not to late for the creative team of Shazam! to add another character’s cameo appearance, since the movie doesn’t hit the theaters until next year. In the meantime, we get to play the “What night have been” game.
