Where Iron Fist Characters Can Be Placed After Series Cancellation

By now, you’ve probably heard that the Netflix Marvel show Iron Fist has been canceled. After two seasons, with the second season having been a vast improvement than the first; the decision has been made to not continue on with the series.

“Marvel’s Iron Fist will not return for a third season on Netflix,” said Disney and Netflix’s statement. “Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is proud of the series and grateful for all of the hard work from our incredible cast, crew and showrunners … We’re thankful to the fans who have watched these two seasons, and for the partnership we’ve shared on this series. While the series on Netflix has ended, the immortal Iron Fist will live on.”

I spoke about the missed storylines we’ll miss out on without a third season in a previous article, but with Iron Fist discontinued, the rest of the Marvel universe can’t simply forget these characters, can they? We’ll most likely get a mention here or there, but there are ways we can see these actors pop up in other series, just as we’ve seen people like Claire Temple, Turk, and even Brett Mahoney scattered throughout The Defenders universe.

There’s a fair chance we may never see Davos and Joy Meachum again, which is a shame considering how great of performances both gave in season two of Iron Fist, despite them both being the bad guys. Right now, The Defenders is a dead series, but we still have Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and The Punisher. Whether the executives decide to bring in another show or stick with the lineup they have right now, there are possibilities we could see some of Iron Fist characters pop up.

Danny Rand

As the main character of the series, I cannot fathom Finn Jones not returning as the “Immortal Iron Fist.” Season two could have ended with Colleen as the sole wielder of the fist, but we were left with an epic, spaghetti western styled ending, with Danny showcasing two fists and glowing bullets. So, there’s a story that’s left unexplored. It seems unlikely we will get a second season of The Defenders, so no chance of seeing Jones there. But, considering how well Jones worked with Mike Colter in the second season of Luke Cage, we could hope for another cameo, or even a Heroes for Hire spinoff.

Finn Jones recently posted a touching tribute on his Instagram after the news dropped. While I even had criticism myself over his portrayal of Danny Rand, the show’s cancellation was indeed shocking.

Colleen Wing

I cannot fathom that we will never see Jessica Henwick return as Colleen Wing. I will say that it will be a damn shame to never see her on screen again. Not only is it incredibly important to have a strong woman of Asian heritage on screen, but she’s a great character. Strong, yet vulnerable, calm, disciplined, but also human. Not to mention her bond with Misty Knight. If we never get the Daughters of the Dragon spinoff we’re all desperately thirsty for, the least Netflix and Marvel could do is bring her back on Luke Cage.

Colleen is busy fighting crime in New York City, wielding an iron fist; and you’re telling me we don’t get to see her again?

Ward Meachum

If you’ve ever read any of my previous articles, you’ll know I’m a fan of Tom Pelphrey. A fantastic actor, he was arguably the best aspect of Iron Fist season one. Pelphrey outdid his performance in the first season and gave us one hell of a show in season two, where we not only got to explore Ward’s past abuse, addiction, and even shined a light on a better future. While I don’t know where Ward would fit in, it’d be a damn shame to let his talent go to waste, as seemingly the character who most closely represents the viewers.

If we do ever get a Daughters of the Dragon spinoff or even a Heroes for Hire, I hope that Ward is included, as no one can deny there was something brewing between Ward and Misty, something I’d like to see again.

Mary Walker

Alice Eve’s Mary Walker was well-done, but I always questioned its role in Iron Fist. There is no doubt in my mind that Eve did a fantastic job as the well-known Marvel character and her switches between personalities were done flawlessly. With Iron Fist canceled, it’s my personal belief that she would be a great edition to The Punisher world. Not only is she a skilled military personnel, but her poise, reserve, and know-how around a gun would give her an advantage in Frank Castle’s universe.

Bringing her on The Punisher would give a good opportunity to explore her dissociative personality disorder, as well as explore further what happened to her in Sokovia. We could also bring her on Daredevil, as she is a Daredevil villain, or even have her on Jessica Jones, reuniting Eve and Krysten Ritter. Just a thought?

I’d also like to honorably mention James Chen, who we got to see in Iron Fist 2 as Sam Chung. Working closely with Colleen at the community center, we did never get to see his character developed more than just a face on the screen. When I spoke with him not too long ago, Chen voiced excitement over the possibility of not only (perhaps) exploring a closer relationship with Colleen, but becoming Blindspot. Skilled in the martial arts, Blindspot would have been a real treat for viewers, and it’s a shame Chen won’t get to fulfill his wish. If we could get him on another show, even for a small cameo, it’d be a nice gesture.

What are your thoughts on the Iron Fist cancellation? Who are you wanting to see most in other shows?

It’s a damn shame we don’t get to see where Danny and Ward wind up in S3 or what happens with Colleen and Dany. I’m hoping all three get pulled into another Marvel Netflix series. Kudos to all the cast, it was a great Season. They deserved another season and we the fans deserved it.

Danny said he will still be on shows so that’s good. Maybe we will see Heroes for Hire
