Google Maps is an online web service that connects users with detailed information about various geographical regions. The platform offers satellite imagery, real-time traffic conditions, route planning, and interactive panoramic views of streets. Currently, over a billion people use Google Maps globally every month.
Google Maps has made it so effortless to navigate that the platform has become indispensable for getting around town. Users need to enter an address into the search box and begin, but periodically, that doesn’t quite work.
If the location you’re visiting doesn’t have a specific address or the included address is wrong, dropping a pin onto the map may prove helpful. Likewise, individuals that don’t know the location but want a general idea of the vicinity can find pins helpful.
Users can access the saved pin quickly from their phone or personal computer. From the location, individuals can locate the business or location details, access directions, save the site, or request directions.
Pinning multiple locations with Google Maps offers a comprehensive overview of regularly used areas, streamlining the navigation process. Users can click on the pin to access any of the details required without having to re-enter the address or location details on the map. Users can also establish route optimization using multiple pins and the direction option available.
How Multiple Pins are Helpful
Knowing all the locations you need to visit can offer insight into the best navigational approach if you’re trying to navigate throughout the day. From a business perspective, traveling throughout the day can be tiresome and costly. Tracking and monitoring your route can help determine optimal delivery areas or territories.
A pin within Google Maps allows users to save a specific location, whether it’s a physical address or a random spot on the map. The pin will enable users to navigate to that exact area again or share the details with others to indicate a meetup location (or new client).
How to Pin Your Locations
Thankfully, Google Maps has a quick and efficient method for situations like the one above. If you need to map multiple locations, users can pin each spot individually or invest in third-party software that can map all points simultaneously.
To get started, here’s how to drop a pin with Google Maps:
Adding Pins Using a Mobile Device
The most recent version of Google Maps has made it easier to drop a pin from the search box. Users can drop a pin automatically, whether they’d like to or not. The software assumes the user wants a particular address, so a pin deposited there makes sense. Users will still need to tap and hold if using the map interface to place a pin instead of the search box.
Open the Google Maps app from your Android or iPhone and begin searching for an address using the search bar at the top of the application. Press and hold the location you’d like to add (you don’t need force to add the pin to the map). Alternatively, users can scroll around the map until they’ve found the location they want to drop a pin.
Tap the pin directly on the map to receive directions, save, or share the location. To remove a pin, pinch out of the site and hit the box titled “Dropped Pin” with an X on the right side. Selecting the X button will remove the pin from your map.
Adding Pins Using a PC
Log in to the Google Maps website to add a pin to Google Maps using a personal computer. Search for the address using the search bar or scroll around the map until you find a suitable location. Left-click the place you’d like to add a pin. Users may need to zoom in on the map if they’d like to drop a pin if there is already a marker.
To view multiple pins by creating a map on the desktop, save each pin in the Your Places file. Keep in mind that users must create their own map if they want to see all pins simultaneously. To track your pins, log into your Google account and tap the menu icon on the top left-hand side of the screen. Select “Your Places,” then “Map,” and lastly, “Create Map.” The map will automatically generate with all previously saved pins.
