Diana is finally reunited with her mother in the world of Paradise Island. With the portal between worlds open and accessible, Wonder Woman can come and go as she pleases. Having loved ones on each side makes things particularly difficult for Diana, as it always feels like she’s saying goodbye. She may have just seen her mother again, but she must travel back to the world of man for a reason. While the entire comic issue is fairly calm and full of niceties, the ending is absolutely shocking and left me with my mouth open at the brutal suddenness of it.
As always, the illustration is absolutely beautiful in the Wonder Woman series. We see Nubia at some point in this issue and I love the way she is drawn and colored. As well as Wonder Woman and even Steve Trevor. You can really feel the happiness and joy radiate off them. The only thing that I may have been confused by slightly was Aphrodite’s look, as she seemed different than previous issues, but it’s very well that I could have missed something. Either way, every character glows and it’s unfortunate that you know happiness like this never lasts.
Wonder Woman, for as ethereal as it is; is also full of great dialogue. I openly laughed at Atlantiades and Steve’s first meeting and the goddess’ line to the mortal man, “you heard her, you may commence being nice to me.” This is just what Steve has to deal with when he is surrounded by Olympians.
While #76 didn’t have anything too big happen save a reunion or two, the end will absolutely shock you! Not only that, it will have major repercussions.
