Zack Snyder Says It Was Important For Batman And Joker To Have A Scene Together

‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’ is currently trending worldwide following its’ new trailer release on Valentine’s Day. The trailer saw many new looks at the film from new characters to previously unheard dialogue some much better looks at the redesign for Steppenwolf. But, the most talked about sequence of the trailer is what came after the title card at the end.

From the title card at the end we hear “we live in a society…” come from the void and then a smash cut to the Knightmare timeline of the film. We see Jared Leto’s Joker from the back as he sits overlooking the apocalyptic landscape. Dressed in a Swat vest and long green hair we hear him speaking of the loss of honor in their current world as he then addresses Ben Affleck’s Batman directly. The 10 second sequence brought forward so much new discussion. Ben Affleck back in the suit. Jared Leto’s new Joker look. And the infamous internet meme “we live in a society” which is so often brought up any time the Joker is. But the real significance of the sequence is the fact that this is the first time that Batfleck (as he is lovingly referred to by fans) and The Joker have actually interacted on screen together unless you count the car chase sequence in ‘Suicide Squad’. This was calculated by Zack Snyder, who had this to say on ‘I Minutemen:

“Part of the reason I really wanted to do the scene was because I felt like this universe, it was important to me that Batman and Joker have a scene together… And it seemed odd to me, or a shame [We haven’t seen them together]. And frankly, it was a conflict that I had planned for, the Knightmare sequence… I was excited to get the opportunity to do it, to have a little taste of it. So I thought it was important for fans to see their Batman and this cinematic universe’s Joker come into some small conflict. Yeah, they have a little bit of history (laughs).”

The meeting of the characters had been anticipated for quite some time and their history has been spoken on quite frequently (Joker having been responsible for killing Dick Grayson in this universe) but after Ben Affleck stepped away from the role several years ago it seemed that it was a meeting that would never happen. But ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’ has provided the chance to finally see a little bit of scene work between them. And while we don’t know what the future holds there is hope for the SnyderVerse to continue after the film is released as it is currently the second most viewed trailer in a 24 hour span in WB history, only trailing Godzilla VS Kong. But, even if this is the end of Zack Snyder’s run with DC we can happily look forward to his four hour Magnum Opus on HBO Max March 18th.

Are you happy to finally see Batfleck and The Joker on screen together? Do you hope to see them again in the future?
