Not content with dominating the box office in the last decade or so, superheroes have been making a serious splash in the world of video gaming in recent years too.
However, if one character has enjoyed a level of success beyond all others in the format it is probably Batman – and speculation is continuing to build that a new game featuring the Caped Crusader may well be on its way.
Fresh rumors
Rumors about a Batman game from Warner Bros Montreal have been developing for a few months now, with We Got This Covered detailing how an announcement had been expected at this year’s E3. However, with that being canceled, it is thought that matters were left a little up in the air.
Now though, the site is one of several reporting on Game Reactor’s new comments on the title, with the latter suggesting that an announcement is imminent and that the release date may actually be sooner than many might expect.
Such suggestions are tantalizing, and it will be interesting to see if a new title can build on the version of Batman so effectively brought to life in the Arkham series of games. However, considering the hero has featured in several of his own titles in recent years, is there perhaps an argument that now is actually the time for a game featuring a wider array of DC’s famous names? A Justice League title would be a major event and here are just three reasons why we think the idea should be considered.
- In the spotlight
DC’s full roster of characters is well and truly in the spotlight across the entertainment world at the moment, with a new Wonder Woman movie and sequels to Aquaman and Shazam thought to be on the way. We have also previously reported on the fact that Green Lantern is expected to get both the big screen and TV series treatment, while we haven’t even made reference to the Snyder Cut of Justice League yet either.
With so many projects on the go across film and TV, supporting those efforts with a video game that offers a definitive take on the characters could be a great way to go.
- The Avengers are coming
Marvel’s own team of superheroes are set to star in an action-adventure game later this year, with Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix being among the names behind the title. According to the official website, it will include an original story as well as the chance for gamers to assemble a team of players in an online mode.
It will be intriguing to see how the title fares, and whether it ultimately leads DC to work with developers to bring their own team to consoles and other formats.
- Other gaming success
A major AAA title featuring a story all about the Justice League would build on the success that the characters have had in other areas. For example, many of them have appeared in the online casino world, with VegasSlots featuring slot games based on the likes of Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, and the recent Justice League blockbuster. There have also been a number of Lego video games based on some of the characters, while the Injustice franchise has put a big focus on combat.
Such titles prove that the heroes have found a natural home in gaming, so bringing them together in a big blockbuster could be a great next step.
An incredible cast of characters
DC has clearly developed an incredible cast of characters through the years and while it will be fascinating to discover what the rumored Batman game looks like; it would be great to see a Justice League title in development too. Hopefully, we will see the team working together in a AAA game very soon.
