John Carpenter Teases A Possible Return To The Directors Chair

John Carpenter is one of the true icons in film history who provided classics from 1978’s ‘Halloween’, which revolutionized the slasher genre, to 1982’s ‘The Thing’ which has remained a powerhouse in tension building and practical effects creativity. Even tackling action films with 1981’s ‘Escape From New York’ and 1988’s They Live’ and, personally 1986’s ‘Big Trouble in Little China’ will forever be the film I return to the most for that perfect blend of comedy and sci-fi action.

However, despite contributing the score for 2018’s ‘Halloween‘, John Carpenter’s contribution to the world of filmmaking has been mostly barren since he last directed 2010’s ‘The Ward’.

However, in an interview with The Daily Beast, Carpenter had this to say about a possible return to the director’s chair:

“I’m working on a couple of things. But, I’m not doing anything for a while, until the world comes back and rights itself. It’s insane now. It’s nuts! I’m not going to go out there and get sick.”

If ever there was a reason to take social distancing seriously it would be this! Anything to get John Carpenter back in the director’s chair! In all seriousness he did go on to discuss how exhausting and time consuming directing can be and did admit that the gratification he gets from composing is more than enough for him. Regardless, John Carpenter has made enough great films to make most directors envious. But, I’m positive that most people would be more than ecstatic to see him putting his touch on the filmmaking world again.

What do you think? Would you like to see John Carpenter return to the directing chair and what is your favorite film from the iconic director?
