Although we enjoy the Academy Awards every year, we always walk away with a sour taste in our mouths. Today I will continue my series on the Oscar winners. I will share my thoughts on who won, who should’ve won and who should’ve been nominated.
The first race I am going to tackle is the 2005 Best Picture race.
Here were the 5 films nominated for Best Picture.
- Crash
- Brokeback Mountain
- Capote
- Good Night and Good Luck
- Munich
Who Won?

Who Should Have Won?: Brokeback Mountain
Brokeback Mountain was nominated for 8 Academy Awards and took home 3 Oscar trophies that night.
Ang Lee who won for Best Direction just rips your heart in a million pieces with this beautiful film. The acting is as strong as you will ever see from a film. You had Ledger, Gyllenhaal, and Williams just COMMAND the screen. The film’s color palette was gorgeous, the Oscar-winning score was breathtaking and the Oscar-Winning score was perfect.
I liked Crash but the Best Picture should have gone to this film.
Who Should Have Been Nominated?: Walk the Line
The Biographic movie about Johnny & June Cash was an absolute gem of a film. This film was nominated for 5 Academy Awards with Reese Witherspoon taking home the long trophy that night for her brilliant portrayal of June Carter Cash.
The Academy should have been charged with HIGHWAY ROBBERY for giving Phillip Seymour Hoffman the Oscar over Joaquin Phoenix. Phoenix was AMAZING as Johnny Cash, he was born to play this man. The walk, the talk, the singing, he knocked it out of the ballpark.
The chemistry between Witherspoon/Phoenix was magnificent. James Mangold is just a stud of a director. This film hands down should have been amongst the five nominated.
Who would you have picked as the winner? And what film was missing from being nominated?

Family, Faith, Film and Football.
