After years of rumors and wishful thinking from fans and even the cast of Hocus Pocus, we are finally getting the sequel. We reported originally that Disney was wanting to get the original Sanderson sisters back in the mix. This news was later confirmed by DisInsider before it was announced that Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy had signed on to return.
We also learned that the movie would focus on the sisters backstory and even got some character details from Illuminerdi, as the film will reportedly follow three women who bring the sisters back this time.
We have heard that former cast members Thora Birch and Doug Jones are confirmed to make an appearance in the film but we have been told that deals could not be reached for Vinessa Shaw and Omri Katz. Things could of course change and while we trust our source things is Hollywood are always fluid.
It was reported a month ago that Disney was looking to film at Chase Farm Park. We have learned exclusively some details about the scene that will be filmed there.
The scene itself will be the opening scene featuring the young Sanderson sisters in their 1600 village being pursued by Puritans eventually leading to an accident which burns their home down causing them to flee.
Filming on Hocus Pocus 2 is currently set for October 4, 2021 in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut.
The original Hocus Pocus was released in 1993 to a modest box office, earning $44.9 million on a $28 million budget. The film was not a hit with critics but fans enjoyed it and it has been a cult classic. The film is usually one of the must see films during the Halloween season.
