Scott Derrickson Says Production on Doctor Strange Was Delayed For Benedict Cumberbatch

In this time of the pandemic, many films productions have been put on hold. Needless to say current events have proven these delays are well founded. In the past however, sometimes those kinds of delays were necessary for other causes. Production on 2016’s Doctor Strange was originally delayed for five months. And according to Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson, it was for a good reason.

Derrickson was commenting on Twitter about the recently announced delays on so many of Marvel and DC’s big films.

Of course, history has proven him correct. It would be hard to imagine Doctor Strange without Cumberbatch. Coming off his star making turn as Sherlock Holmes, he was Derrickson’s first and only choice. And considering the psychedelic visuals they came up with, the time delayed was well spent. We can only hope the virus imposed delays will also yield positive results. When things get back to semblance of normalcy. That is our hope anyway.
