Oni Press ‘Super Punk’ by Mirtes Santana and Guilherme Petreca

Our friends at Oni Press are back with another stylish, attitude‑packed YA original. Thanks to them, we’ve got an exclusive look at the pages that prove Super Punk is about to hit readers like a sugar‑rush sucker punch. It has to be—the Punk Code Authority approved it. Created by the powerhouse duo of Mirtes Santana and Guilherme Petreca, Super Punk blends youthful defiant energy with a surreal, candy‑colored world. This world is equal parts chaotic, heartfelt, and irresistibly weird.

Santana and Petreca aren’t just building a story—It’s the kind of comic that reminds you why creator‑owned work matters: it’s bold, it’s fun, and it refuses to look like anything else on the stands.

PORTLAND, OR (MAY 4, 2026) PRESS PLAY TO MONSTER SLAY! Oni Press – the multiple Eisner and Harvey Award-winning publisher of groundbreaking comics and graphic novels since 1997 – is proud to present SUPERPUNK, a radical adventure story about the need to rebel and act out to protect the people and things you love from multi-award-winning comic book artist Guilherme Petreca and TV writer Mirtes Santana. The punk rock graphic novel about a thirteen-year-old skateboarder, podcaster, and punk — who just also happens to be a superhero! — ollies into stores on May 5, 2026.

After discovering her grandfather’s old cassette player, Violeta decides to play a cassette tape backward. (Why? It’s pure punk rebellion, duh!) What she didn’t know was this rebellious act would grant her magical powers! Aaaaand . . . unleash monsters. A LOT of them. Violeta will need to use all her new superpowers to protect her home of Hollow Hills from the strange creatures and send them back to wherever they came from. Luckily, she’s joined by Alan, Violeta’s faithful sidekick and fellow podcaster. Together, they’ll have to find a way to put these monsters back in their place. But between homework, podcasting, and skateboarding, Violeta has a tough time managing it all. When a horde of monsters descend on her school, will this superpunk be able to save the day? Superhero + punk = SUPERPUNK. That’s Violeta!

SUPERPUNK is the brainchild of writer Mirtes Santana — known for her writing for successful children’s TV series in Brazil such as Brainiacs (Gloob), Monica’s Gang: the Series (Globoplay), and The Nutty Boy (Netflix) — and artist Guilherme Petreca, the award-winning creator behind Carnaval de Meus Demônios, Ye, and Ogiva. SUPERPUNK, initially published as a zine in 2017, was inspired by Petreca’s preadolescence, when he walked around with his Walkman and believed in invisible monsters, and marks Santana’s debut work as a comic book writer.

Rock out with SUPERPUNK when it hits stores on May 5, 2026!

And now, we’re thrilled to debut exclusive pages that showcase exactly what makes Super Punk such a standout. From the kinetic layouts to the expressive linework to the bursts of color that practically vibrate off the page, these previews offer a taste of the wild ride Santana and Petreca have cooked up.

Scroll down, dive in, and meet the punks who are about to steal your heart—and maybe set something on fire along the way.

Oni Press ‘Super Punk’ Preview Pages

Comic book cover titled "Super Punk" featuring three kids posing energetically; one in the center with a fist raised, flanked by two others on a bike and holding a guitar.

A stern adult points to the door, sending a frustrated child to the principal's office; the child tries to take a cassette player, but is told to leave it behind.

A teacher tells the class to focus; outside, a large gorilla climbs over a school fence, sits on the roof, and looks around while students inside appear surprised.

A comic-style scene shows a child running through a school, a cassette tape floating, a sad girl, and an older woman in the principal’s office where someone is knocking on the door.

A comic page shows a child talking to Principal Celeste, who wears glowing green glasses. The conversation is about breaking rules and maintaining order at school.

A principal scolds a student in her office, handing her a warning letter; the student is later startled by a buzzing noise as she sits at a desk.

A worried child runs downstairs, is scolded by an adult, then enters a classroom and is told by a teacher to find their seat as classmates watch.

A teacher gives instructions to students in a classroom; one student appears frustrated, and later sits alone at a desk outside at night with a "Discipline, order, and discipline!" sign.

    Released MAY 5th

Oni Press’ Super Punk is shaping up to be one of those Youth books that remind you why taking chances on new voices pays off. Mirtes Santana and Guilherme Petreca are bringing to life a world that’s loud, heartfelt, defiantly original, and fun. These pages are just the opening salvo. If this preview is any indication, Oni Press has another standout on its hands, and young readers are in for something special.

Oni Press ‘Super Punk by Mirtes Santana and Guilherme Petreca hits bookstores on May 5th. Keep up with GVN Talking Comics for more creator spotlights, exclusive reveals, and in-depth looks at the books driving the medium forward.
