There are only eight episodes in The Boys season 5. Keep in mind that this is the last season. So, while episode five was a good episode, it was full of filler content that sort of felt unnecessary considering how close we are to the end. There was a lot to take away from this episode and sure, some big stuff did happen at the end, but if you wanted to skip to the last 15 minutes of the episode, you wouldn’t be faulted in that.
This review is not going to be just flaming the most recent episode – again, there was some important things going on. And, in order to really talk about it, we need to get into spoilers. So, if you haven’t watched episode 5 of season 5 of The Boys and you don’t want spoilers, you’ve been warned!

Spoilers AHEAD
We have to start with Sister Sage. This episode followed several characters and gave some insight on how they feel, especially with Homelander’s new holy crusade. While Sister Sage’s motives have always been questionable, it is a little disappointing to see that her main goal is literally the plot to an old Twilight episode. Perhaps this is the point of The Boys, where even a super-intelligent character like Sister Sage is still a soulless supe and therefore, we shouldn’t look for any deep meaningful journey from her – she literally just wants to be alone to read.
Unlike Sister Sage, the new Black Noir’s section was actually very touching to watch. It’s been nice to see Nathan Mitchell have the freedom to add more to the character of Black Noir. Mitchell has been physically playing the character since season one, though; Fritzy-Klevans Destine played the face in season three. It’s been rewarding to watch Mitchell actually be able to showcase his acting abilities and it’ll be interesting to see where his story ends up.
The most surprising side character (and person I didn’t think I’d ever feel bad for) was Firecracker this episode. We got a moment to see the woman behind the persona and while this could have been a redemption moment for her, we do unfortunately see Firecracker lean into the lie, and not take a stand against Homelander – a fatal mistake either way, in the end.
Supernatural Reunion

Now, the best part of this episode was probably the most hyped up part. We had a Supernatural reunion between Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, and Misha Collins. Padalecki and Collins play C-tier Supes that hang around the likes of Seth Rogen and Kumail Nanjiani. The meta parts of this section were great and it was hilarious seeing the three actors reunited, but playing very different characters than they were before. Ultimately, Mr. Marathon and Malchemical are just cameos, but it was great all the same. While the fight scenes were badass, it was a little disappointing to see Soldier Boy taking an unexpected stance when it comes to Homelander. Not that we ever thought Soldier Boy was a good guy, but the previous episode kind of felt like we were gearing towards a redemption arc. Unless his support for Homelander is a ruse of some kind, it’s a little disappointing.
The search for Bombsight and V1 continues and we only have three episodes left. What’d you think of episode five of The Boys?
