Before he became James Bond, Roger Moore appeared in a 60’s television series as The Saint. The show was based on the literary character created by Leslie Charteris in the 1920s. The series went from 1962-1969. It followed Simon Templar (a.k.a. The Saint), a Robin Hood-esque criminal and thief for hire. Later, with the hopes of recapturing those nostalgic for the old series, the character was revisited in a 1997 film starring Val Kilmer.
Now, as might be expected with the popularity of reboots, it is being revisited again. This time, Dexter Fletcher, director for the Elton John biopic Rocketman, has been tabbed to direct a reboot of the Saint. Seth Grahame-Smith wrote the script for the film, with Lorenzo Di Bonaventura (“Transformers,” “G.I. Joe) producing along with Brad Krevoy and the late Robert Evans, posthumously. Whether or not this version will gain traction is yet to be determined.
