The Moments we will never forget.
Super Bowl 2022 is fast approaching, the Rams Vs the Bengals a set-up we did not expect to see. Yet, with the speedy approach of the next Super Bowl, we want to look back in time at all the Super Bowls that came before.
There have been many memorable moments in the Super Bowl’s years past.
We often enjoy betting Super Bowl odds, and this year it is hard to say what we will bet just yet. There was such belief that the Buccaneers would return to defend their title, but they are not, and now it is time to scratch our heads and think of what the outcome could be this year.
With all that in mind, let’s take a look at the 10 most incredibly memorable moments in Super Bowl history.
#1. The Blackout Bowl – 2013.
We are hardly going to forget about the Blackout Bowl.
Spectators had only just come back to their seats in time to see the second half of the game when a power outage coated the Superdome in dusk.
The Ravens and 49ers emptied the field and some people had to be freed from the stadium elevator which had stalled. Fans were taking out their phones to try and figure out what had happened.
Play was halted for 34 minutes while the electrics were fixed.
#2. Vince Lombardi Carried Off Field – 1968.
In the 60s we saw one of the best iconic moments in sporting history. Vince Lombardi was coaching the Green Bay Packers, and as they found victory, he was hoisted up onto his team’s shoulders and carried off the field.
#3. Miami Dolphins Perfect Season – 1973.
The game, in general, was not incredible, however when we saw the Dolphins beat the Redskins, 14-7, they capped the season 17-0, and became known as the first ever team to go totally undefeated and well on their way to securing a championship.
Even to this day, they are still the only team to have ever achieved this feat.
#4. The Helmet Catch – 2008.
Considered to be one of the greatest plays ever seen in a Super Bowl, it happened in the final seconds of the game, the Giants were behind 14-10 and were facing a third down. However, Eli Manning spun away from the opposing tacklers and hauled a pass to Tyree.
Tyree leapt into the air and wrestled the ball from a defender, somehow pinning it to his helmet as he hit the ground.
The Giants managed to score another touchdown, thus ending the Patriots undefeated opportunity to have an all-winning season. SCORE!
#5. Game-Winning Kick Missed – 1991.
In 1991, the Bills fan base left in agony, knowing how Scott Norwood only just missed what could have been the game-winning goal.
He had perfectly hit more than 70% of his kicks in that season, but this one had gone only a tad too wide.
He had a chance and lost it.
#6. ‘Where’s My Helmet?’ – 1992.
The Bills have not had it so easy, although it was likely something of an omen when their primary running back couldn’t find his helmet on the sidelines at the very beginning of the game.
They had to complete two plays with the backup running back before he found his headgear.
This became the beginning of a bit of bad luck for the Bills in the early 90s, and it was also the beginning of a down day for the team too, as they lost 37-24 to the Redskins.
#7. Lett’s Goal-Line – 1993.
Back in ‘93 the Cowboys were decimating the Bills 52-17 in the later parts of the game, when Leon Lett scooped himself up, and rumbled untouched an epic 60 yards to another touchdown.
However, he started to get all showboaty as he got to the end zone, and the Bills receiver Beebe caught him, stealing the ball from him with only a yard to go. The ball then bounced to the end zone.
It was a little victory for the underdog franchise.
#8. The Tackle – 2000.
In 2000 the Titans were behind the Rams by a single touchdown. Steve McNair threw a quick slanted pass to his receiver who appeared to be on the way to tying the game when Mike Jones corralled him at the two-yard line.
As Dyson fell forwards, he tried stretching to get it in, but failed. It has been renowned as the most epic final play to be seen in a Super Bowl.
#9. Joe Namath’s Upset – 1969.
Namath made an inebriated comment that the Jets would win their game, and it drove the coaches mad.
However, he proved he wasn’t joking, leading the franchise to an epic 16-7 win and cemented his name in history.
#10. The Disputed Play Call – 2015.
This is probably one of the most criticized play calls in history happened when the Seahawks were behind New England 28-24. Everyone anticipated what might happen next, but Wilson chucked a slanted pass to Lockette that was intercepted by Malcolm Butler by the goal line.
TV announcers and fans alike could not believe what they just saw.
