Ubisoft Opens Up About Delaying Watch Dogs: Legion As Well As Basically Everything Else

The recent announcement that Ubisoft would be delaying most of its big releases was, to many of us a shock. Now Ubisoft is opening-up on why exactly these games are being delayed and it isn’t because they’re scared of competition.

Ubisoft recently announced that the third installment in the Watch Dogs franchise, Watch Dogs: Legion will be delayed along with other big upcoming Ubisoft titles including Rainbow six Quarantine and, Gods and Monsters. All three now have unknown releases in 2020. We do know they are expected in the 2nd and 3rd quarters of Ubisofts 2021 Fiscal Year which can be translated to sometime between July and December 2020 for all of us who don’t speak “multi-million dollar corporation”. The announcements came shortly after Ubisoft revealed that sales for both The Division 2 and Ghost Recon: Breakpoint were “very disappointing”.

The official Watch Dogs: Legion Twitter account put out a tweet explaining the games delayed releases, stating they wanted more time to perfect the “play as anyone” feature which is clearly the game’s biggest selling point.

Watch Dogs: legion was expected to release March 6th, 2020 with Gods & Monsters due February 15th, 2020. Rainbow Six Quarantine‘s release date was and still is unknown. All we know now is that the three games will be released much later than expected.

During an investor conference, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot clearly stated that the delays were not to avoid other big games releasing around the same time such as Cyberpunk 2077. They were instead delayed to ensure the games can be as polished as possible at launch. Yves Guillemot also added that Ubisoft‘s 2021 fiscal year will include “two additional AAAs from our biggest franchises”. These two new games are currently completely unknown but a new Assassin’s Creed title is a safe bet, and maybe a new Far Cry Game? We’ll have to wait and see.

It’s no secret that Ubisoft‘s recent releases have been given the cold shoulder from the community. Both The Division 2 and Ghost Recon: Breakpoint underperformed at launch and whilst Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey was given some praise for switching up the Assassins Creed Formula many stated that Ubisoft’s first real open-world RPG wasn’t as revolutionary as they may have hoped.

Personally I’m more than happy to wait for Ubisoft’s next wave of games if it means they launch in a better state than the last few we’ve had. What are your thoughts on Ubisoft delaying most of its heavy hitters until later next year? Were you planning on picking any of these up at launch? Let us know down below or over on Twitter.
