WandaVision Episode Five Review: She Recast [SPOILERS]?

Reality has started to seep into Wanda’s happy town of Westview, as everyone’s awareness in the show grows. Episode five is not only about all of the players in the show to find out what’s happening, but for the audience to have clarity. Speculations we’ve had early on are becoming confirmed and aspects of the show we didn’t predict are coming to light. Who is in charge of Westview? How did it begin? And how infinite is Wanda Maximoff’s powers?

Slight Spoilers

We’re back in Westview, after episode four took a break to essentially show us what’s happening behind the curtain. Now taking place in the 80s, WandaVision doesn’t necessarily return to an ignorantly blissful town. It may be set in the 80s and don 80s clothing, but Wanda’s perfect little town is becoming harder to maintain. And it’s clear from this moment forward that Vision and others will only start becoming more aware. To what end is this? At what point does Wanda stop the charade and throw in the towel? By one badass scene in this episode, it’s clear she’s not very willing to do that. And I think we knew since Age of Ultron how powerful she was, but at this point, what can’t she do?

What About the Happy Couple?

My favorite moments from this episode came from Vision. In a way, I almost feel bad for him. Vision has always been the voice of reason and since he’s an android, he’s a very honest person. So, the idea that his beloved could be doing something immoral is starting to break through to him. But, there are components that stop him from fully understanding what is going on – things you find out in this episode. WandaVision went from a sitcom where we cheered on the main couple, to now wondering how much of this is consensual?

Is This the Start of Monica’s Powers?

Episode five didn’t completely abandon its SWORD development storyline. It went back and forth between Westview and the SWORD stakeout near the “Hex” – as Darcy nicknamed it. I’m loving Darcy, Jimmy, and Monica working together. It’s obvious that getting tossed through the bubble has had an effect on Monica – is this the way we get her having powers? I could see it. I could also see there being tension between Monica and the current director of SWORD.

What Really Stuck Out This Episode

The biggest shocker of this episode came at the end. For me, I won’t say it’s the obvious surprise. I’ve seen people quite shocked, when we knew the casting of this particular person and could guess that this was in the direction they were going to go. My shocker was Vision revealing his memories – revealing what he does or doesn’t know. To me, that was the biggest shock of this episode.

Rating: 4.5/5

Episode five has not only changed WandaVision forever, but it’s changed the MCU forever. It makes me excited for what’s next. What did you think about WandaVision episode five?
