WB Initially Only Intended To Release Unfinished Cut of ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’

The newest trailer for ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’ is currently taking social media by storm. Having crossed over 40 million views combined since its’ release on Sunday (probably even more as I’ve started writing this). Much praise and focus have gone towards the jaw-dropping visuals and introduction of new characters (namely Joker) as well as the re-design of Steppenwolf. In addition to these additions the film also is comprised of over three and a half hours of never before seen footage from the director resulting in a massive four hour epic. However, if WB had their way initially, these new additions would not even exist.

Producer and spouse of Zack Snyder, Deborah Snyder, revealed a few more details on the early stages of releasing the Snyder cut on the ‘LightCast Podcast‘:

“When they approached us we had to come up with an idea of what it was because originally [the studio was] like ‘You can just put the cut [out] just the way it is.’ Zack’s like ‘No, it’s like a mish-mosh. The music we can’t use. If I’m going to do this, I’m going to do it the right way, or it’s not going to be the right way.”

She went on to explain the process of figuring out the cost “in secret”:

“But to figure out in secret, because we didn’t know if it was going to be real. But just to figure out the costs of the visual effects, and we were doing this kind of on our own, so we could put together a presentation that we could go to the studio with and a big part of the presentation was the fans and what that represented to them. I wish it had taken them less time because we wouldn’t be so under the gun to get it done, it still took them months to kind of figure it out.”

In the end, the Snyder’s won and received $70 million to finish their cut of the film in the way that they intended. This included adding roughly 5+ minutes of additional photography which will add Jared Leto’s Joker and Joe Manganiello’s Deathstroke to the Knightmare timeline of the SnyderVerse (as well as possibly a few other surprises).

The release of ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League‘ has meant many things to both the Snyder’s and to this passionate fanbase. It has seen all of the artists involved finally see their work shown to the world, it has resulted in many behind the scenes injustices brought to light and dealt with thanks to the bravery of Ray Fisher, and it has seen a positive movement by the fans to contribute to over $500,000 raised for the AFSP in the name of Autumn Snyder. And while we all certainly hope to see the SnyderVerse continue beyond this film, you can’t define the ‘Release the Snyder Cut’ movement as anything but a success across the board.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League‘ will begin streaming on HBO Max on March 18th. How excited are you to see Zack Snyder’s vision finally brought to the screen and do you hope to see it continue beyond this film?
